Hi, this video shows you how to replace the 3.5mm (1/8inch) jack on a gaming headset or headphones. The same process will work on 2.5mm jacks.
The video explains the plugs, shows how to test and verify the colour code and finally the fitting of the 3.5mm plug and then how to test including a microphone test,
Many thanks Vince

Definitely worth it. The skill set of soldering enables you to repair even create things rather than always spending money to buy new stuff.

Thank you so much for a great video. You saved me a lot of money in the process. Repair for less than a fiver versus new headset for 50. Made my gamer son very happy .

Finally, someone answered my questions. Thank you so much. I taught myself about these jacks because I needed them to get my job done at one point... however, I had no idea WHY I had to use them with specificity. Now I know.

I never knew the white wire was a cable, i thought it was plastic to hold the red/green wires that wrap on it. Thank you for giving me a bit of knowledge for soldering my headphones.

your 4 pole headset explanation was accurate, even though you said you are not sure.. This is a real channel no fancy haircut and green screen and american accent. This is a working man's and PC user and Gamer video and a diy enthusiasts video. Well explained as a normal personn instead of pretending to be some polished cnn type channel with greenscreen. Makes me miss England and my fellow Englishmen.

Although you said you were doing the soldering for the first time. I watched the whole video with your beautiful English accent and wonderful video that covered everything. You are a great instructor and teacher. Thank you for a job well-done. I liked your video. You are a PRO.

My son is on his 3rd turtle beach headset now, the previous two have got the same bent jack that you mentioned where he's just yanked it out carelessly. Hoping he's finally learnt a lesson now but I'm going to have a crack at repairing the previous two, thanks for the upload.

Great video. For anyone wanting to do this without a soldering iron there are jacks with screws that don't require soldering, you simply screw the cables in place, they cost a bit more though.

Oh boy, should have watched your video first. Stupid me, I never considered 4 pole vs 3 pole vs 2 pole. Now I've got some worthless mono plugs! Off to the net I go. Anyway, thanks for putting these kinds of videos together. It's the imperfection that makes them different and all the better!

Top video, was just about to bin my headset and this popped up on a google search. I couldn't work out why I couldn't ring the wires to the plug until I watched your vid all the way through. Really helpful, many thanks!

Great tutorial. I've ordered a four pole jack, but I think I'm going to splice in a new section of wire with a new jack on the end after watching this.

Vince, your a legend! I was struggling to work out what went where. I just wanted to say, on the pair i've just fixed, the green and red twisted pair surrounded the white wire so I needed to separate them before soldering on the new jack.
Top man!

I have two sets of Hyper X II headsets and one of the jacks is loose another just got bent slightly. At 120 a pair now this will be invaluable! Thank you sir! (Thankfully I found a second pair at a thrift store for 8 bucks, my first pair I bought new. I recommend them as they have been through a lot over the years!)

Pretty sure this is why high-end headphones don't have a cord permanently soldered to the headset. If the cord breaks, you just get another one.

Oh my God I see this guy every day and ironically I really need his help oh my God thanks vince, and it was the exact headset

Hi. A short extension cable would prevent it from breaking again. Then it just jumps apart without damage. Very good video, thank you.
