John Smith calls Kido - The Man in the High Castle S2E8

After the surprising defection of German Oberführer Diels, Obergruppenführer John Smith calls Kempeitai Chief Inspector Kido to discuss the defection, as well as the events of the day so far. Of particular note is that Diels brought with him evidence that a German, Karl Muller, was the one who shot the Crown Prince, and that he chose that day in particular to defect when he could have done so at any time. Understanding now that Muller and Diels were both working with Reinhard Heydrich, Kido and Smith realise that the plot within the Reich is larger than first thought.

I just love how John and Kido mirrored one another so well, they we’re basically the same person but with unique driving forces, problems and character dynamics. Everything Smith does is for the protection of his family no matter how twisted, evil, delusional and demented it is, while Kido does what he does for his fanatical loyalty to the empire, believing his extremist ways are necessary for the preservation of the nation, no matter how sick, twisted, evil and radical it is

One thing I did always love is how they show how the Japanese Empire is lagging behind Germany and even its American Satellite state in every way. The Japanese look about 10 years behind, the Nazis have these beautiful and elaborate buildings, tons of soldiers at their disposal because they accepted the Americans into the Reich while Japan is acting as an Oppressor, Germany is making it seem as though they're equals, and so the Americans are much more willing to take action against Japan and stay loyal to the Reich.

minor detail but the dossier on Kido's desk with an image of a rifle on it is of a soviet SVD, a gun that would not exist in our timeline until after the second world war. with the dissolution of the soviet union in this shows timeline, such a rifle would not exist.

Looks like John Smith called Kido, though.

My favourite characters were John, Kido, the trade minister, the Japanese Navy admiral, and Juliana

My question is where are Eisenhower, Truman, McArthur, Nixon through all this? You would have thought they would have played a part. Or were they all executed? Doesn't really explain
