In this video IT Help Desk job | Tech Career Planning | Do I Need To Start At Help Desk), we address one of the most common pieces of “advice” that people receive when trying to start their tech career paths. So many people are told that if they want any job in IT or Tech fields then they have to start in IT customer support, customer service tech jobs, it help desk jobs, or some other form of entry level it jobs with no experience. BUT THAT’S NOT TRUE. This makes sense if you desire to have a help desk career, but it doesn’t make any sense if you desire a different information technology career path or any of the other technology career paths available.

Since we deal mostly with individuals who desire a cloud architect job, solution architect job, or cloud engineer job; we find that this is one of the biggest tech career mistakes. It is important that you train and prepare for the career you want. Having the proper tech career guidance for your tech career path is most important. As a tech career coach for over 20 years, I coach my students to train for the job they want to get hired in the role they want as quickly as possible, there is no reason to take entry level cloud computing jobs, if you want a non-entry level job.

At Go Cloud Careers and Go Cloud Architects we are focused on helping you be the best at your dream cloud career with the right cloud architect training to develop the right cloud architect skills and cloud engineer training to develop the right cloud engineer skills. I have had two solution architect roles without having a help desk role previously.
I will say you will have to upskill and train for the skill set you need but you don’t need an “entry level” position so to speak.
Another great video Michael thank you.

When you are young, you might work certain jobs to make ends meet. Once you find a niche that fulfills you, is when you become passionate about it. Once you find your passion, train for the career and life you desire. Don’t get complacent, set your goal, don’t get distracted and when you do, refocus on that goal and what it will take to achieve it.

Great video Mike! I was given the advice that I need to be on the helpdesk to start out in IT before getting my first cloud job. Oh boy wish I saw this video 7 months ago. Thanks for this video, the cloud engineering program has been a God send. #cloudhired

I've been told by my mentors I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT starting at help desk. I've DEFINITELY heard over the years that you need to though. It's not true.
