How much money can you make in helpdesk? Not all helpdesk jobs are created equal.

I don't see nothing wrong with help desk... It's a gateway to other opportunities... I wouldn't mind setting up the PCs/Laptops to a Switch & Router. And slap the PCs/Laptops on AD/DS. I will troubleshoot the PCs/Laptops too... And connecting them to a Switch and connect a Router. Install OS in the PCs/Laptops too... 😎👌💯

if you have a clearance You can easily make six figs working as a fed contractor for a company, I think all you need is security + and of course the more experience you have and certs/degree in the field then more money you can leverage upon your start, then you can move up the chain from Tier 1 to Tier II or becoming a Tier 1 lead, plenty room to move around

Pretentious tech people hate it so they can feel better about what they do. A job is a job. Do it well.

Thank you for this information I had a course with that gentleman you had the discussion with during the pandemic. Paid a lot of money for it and come to find out the course was a limit. Nevertheless studying now to get my A+ and I’m doing well.

Industry, company, and region have a lot to do with it. I'm just under 6-figures as a Sr. Service Desk Analyst, but the company I work for is based out of NYC, and I work for a SaaS company, but I work remotely. Also, every Helpdesk is built differently. We're writing PowerShell scripts, deploying EDR solutions, creating and managing Sharepoint sites, O365 administration, etc. Lots of Jr. SysAdmin work. Very different from the siloed HD I worked on, where you couldn't even create mailboxes.

How does someone get Senior Desktop Support as their first job in IT? Can you elaborate a bit more? Does he have experience in other areas?

Hey Kev, Thanks for the info. As someone trying to transition into IT, can I ask you a few questions for guidance, please? Do you have a class or classes you teach for a help desk position? Or a class(es) that you recommend to get a desktop support or desktop support engineer role? Would you recommend getting a Network+ /CCNA and Security+ certs? Do you need to learn programming for a help desk tier 2 or 3 role?
