I was at this game. I was 9 years old. I'm now 39. Life.

There was something magical about the old Wembley, something that can’t seem to be replicated..

Mark Hughes with the most important goal in man u history. If they had lost this, Fergie was gone, but they went on to win the replay and the following year, it all started.

It's hard to understand why Ian Wright only started his professional career at the age of 22! This guy got real talent, he could easily be a top striker even in today's game!

1:36 Nigel Martyn's reaction after conceding the goal is extraordinary.

One of the best Palace teams ever (if not the best), so many quality players, remember they just moved up but then wrecked Div 1 for a while bf the team broke up, Wright and Bright were a huge media sensation then, they were so fun to watch and lots of TV episodes on both of them, they would face off each other later in classic Gunners-Wednesday double cup clashes

Those were the days, short shorts and the cup final at the old Wembley. Used to get up early and watch the BBC on the teams road to the final and watch the players boarding the coach.

2 players lit this one up. Hughes played for Bayern, barca and United. Wright played non league football. Great juxtaposition. Never give up.

I was 7 when this happened. I was 2 months short of 8. I went to my best friend's bday at his house. We all played football in the back garden, all day. When this came on, I ran in and sat with all the adults. Left all my friends outside. I never missed a kick. Then I watched the replay with my parents! Never forget it. Lee Martin started all the magic for Fergie with that winner. Brilliant.

As a 16 year old gooner in NZ I was delighted to sign Wrighty, especially after this performance.

I’m a United fan but kudos to Ian Wright for such a brilliant individual performance. Talk about impact players, he really did change the match after he was introduced into the action.

It was a brilliant first game ~ a real rollercoaster of a ride that ebbed and flowed from first to last. In the replay United were just too strong and well organised, Ferguson having made the now fully justified decision to rest Jim Leighton, with his stand-in, Les Sealy, having a brilliant match in which he made a couple of superb saves which kept Palace at bay.

From here on in United never looked back and it proved to be the catalyst for a very long and successful era.

This was one of the best finals along with 1981, 1987, 2001, 2006 and 2014

always liked Wrighty, spectacular finisher - as the commentator said, a bit of the "Ricky Villas" in that goal #COYS

Ian Wright was unlucky to be on the losing side.
This FA cup is what made Manchester United the juggernaut for the next 23 years.

I miss the days of the Thursday night replays. The FA cup has lost its magic.
I remember this final, I was 16 at the time.
