auses of High Platelets (Thrombocytosis) | Rapid Review

Thrombocytosis is a condition involving abnormally high levels of platelets (thrombocytes). Platelets are small cell fragments from a larger cell called megakaryocytes. Platelets are important in clotting as they are used to form platelet plugs. Thrombocytosis can occur due to many underlying conditions. Thrombocytosis can be separated into primary and secondary thrombocytosis. High platelet levels can cause a variety of vasomotor signs and symptoms, including headaches and chest pain. Diagnosis involves blood work and assessing for underlying causes, and treatment involves particular medications if it is deemed to be primary thrombocytosis.

Thank you for this video! I'm a medical student and I can't thank you enough for how many times your videos have given me the confidence to speak up to other members on my team and ask them about conditions you've given me a fundamental understanding on!

If platlets were caused by IDA, how long would it take for them to normalize once IDA is corrected by iron infusions?
