That’s the whole point. They don’t want you to make a decision. They just want you to accept and go.

I recently picked up a ride at the Denver airport to go to Boulder. The fare was around $47 which I didn't think was bad because it is less than an hour drive. Right after leaving the airport the passenger told me they charged her around $110. I was incensed and offered to do the ride for $70 to which she agreed and I canceled the ride in the Uber app. Big screw you to Uber.

When you get a new request while driving, you really only have about 5 seconds to make a decision and not 10, on whether to accept it or not, because half of that time you're trying to concentrate on the road.

The ability to do FAST computation is critical to choosing the best rides. Take the total minutes for pickup and drop off, divide that into 60 and multiply the result by the fare which equals the hourly pay rate. I call that the “Golden Formula.” You can do the same for the miles (add up the total and divide the fare by the total miles for $ per mile). I do both and then decide based on direction whether the ride is worth it or not. I agree 6 seconds is not enough for 99% of drivers to do the math and that is on purpose.

The last time I drive for Uber was back in June ‘22. They were offering approx. 60-70 cents per kilometre. (.6 miles) I ignored more than twice the requests that I accepted. I sat twice or more as long as I drove. The only busy times are Fri. & Sat. nights. NOT worth my time or burning up my car for such little money.

I feel like anywhere in management/representation the breakdown for total revenue is 85% to the contractor 15% to the middleman. Uber, Doordash, GrubHub doesn't pay like that. They never have, a lot of them went as far as wage theft on top of that. There needs to be some serious discussion about this.

Customers have completely stopped tipping on rideshare. Both Lyft and Uber are $0.91 a mile rates. I am regularly getting $3-4 a mile with my current strategy not using rideshare. Lyft offered me a ton of money to come back. Laughed at it and kept going.

Neither app shows me the route before pick up. Does not show me pay before pick up. Customers using the full amount of time at pick up. Nothing will ever get me to come back.

I accepted a $13 ride. Ride turned out to have 2 stops before the drop. First stop was Walgreen's pharmacy which took half an hour. Uber sent a message if I was ok. Uber could not have known ahead how long would the stops take. After the drop I got paid $13!!!

Today I was offered an airport run for 5.50. Yes, 5 dollars 50 cents. Total time between pickup and ride to the airport is around 12 minutes. Oh yes, there's also a 2.50 toll charge, which presumably the fare is supposed to include.

I was driving another passenger when the request came in, so didn't notice it was an airport run.

I theoretically have Uber platinum, but with all these crappy requests coming in, I can't get anywhere near 85% acceptance rate. I'm now at 73%.

So much for being an independent contractor. Sure, I can turn the app on and off whenever I want. But you get penalized for not accepting the garbage they offer.

By the way, I drive in Boston, seems like they may have recruited too many drivers.

We need justice. Now drivers earn 30-40% of the payment. Now Uber hides rider’s fare. So you can only see your payment. My customer showed me he paid $66 dollar and I got paid $26. We need new better company 😢. Plus they also charges airport fee from both customer and riders. You can’t take more than 50% when driver is taking all the risk and doing 99% of the job. Why no body is talking about this.

Anybody else getting tired of accepting jobs just for uber and lyft and having them lower the payout once you accept

Pay more attention to drop off locations which were more distance than you expected.

I'm out here in LA there is NO surges here anymore, like none at all at least from what my map is showing me. No quests either. I've also noticed that my map looks different then my mom and brothers when they bring up their map they will show busy areas that my map isn't showing and my map will have busy areas they don't see. I also don't have the coffee cup icon. But I haven't seen a surge in ages, honestly feels like there have no surges at all since that new york incident. It's like every month something happens that makes uber pay us less and less.

“aaaand it’s gone” Had me cracking up 😂. That’s exactly how it feels, I agree they need to increase the time I have to decide even by just a couple seconds.

Miles is a decent measure. However for faster calculating, just use time. If a pick up is 10 minutes away and the ride is 10 minute trip... the minimum fare to be accepted is $6. That gives you a possible average of $18 per hour. Not what I would do but using it as an example for what you want to earn per hour. And yes this makes most base fares not worth it.

Hi mike, 2:10 you’re talking about the dollarXmile ratio, i want to add that uber does not care how far you are from the person. They won’t pay more because you are far away. We are barely making the quota and it gets harder and harder to meet it. I’ve gotten 3$ requests and their like 3-2 towns + traffic. Another big thing, the time shown in the app IS NOT THE TRUE TIME. There’s soooo many factors to take into consideration. And you’re telling me the app did that for me? please. We are barely making 1:1 ratio(1$ per mile) meanwhile we have taxi drivers earning on that same trip 80$-100$. For those of you looking yo get into uber. Treat it as a Pyramid Scheme. Make people think it’s worth it when it’s most certainly is not. Try it yourself. But its a big no for me. 1000+ rides and i can with certainty say that doing uber has being more of a then anything else regret. 21$ for 20 mile ride? what the actual ****.

That’s the thing about Uber and other rideshare companies. They know you won’t have enough time to look at everything. They just want you to see the big $ amount and think “oooh that’s a lot” without seeing the miles. It’s a mind game and manipulation they’ve learned.

Top 3 most important details are total miles / Pay out/ end destination. You always want to know what cities are you willing to travel to. Don't be afraid to ask hey do you need a ride after this appointment and so on. Ive scored huge pay outs by simply offering my services again. Like Mike said before multiple streams of income. Open all your possibilities for more income by simply multi apps and checkbox all uber services. Set a minimum price your willing to work for. Me personally I will deny anything under 5.00 period.

IMO forget about the miles and concentrate on the minutes and drop off location. For example if you want to gross $30 per active hour the offer has to be $5 for every 10 minutes driving.

Have you noticed recently the expected earnings on Uber eats has been horrible lately? Basically as of the last week (also in Pittsburgh as you are), most expected earnings are laughable. It’s almost hard to find any that are at least $1 per mile and a lot that pop up are really far away.
