America: the greatest, richest, freest country in the world – or is it? David Cross, of Mr. Show, Arrested Development, and The Dark Divide, joins us to discuss why Americans, despite living in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, have a much worse standard of living than people who live in poorer countries. The "American Dream" isn't just dying: it's dead and buried. Cross tells us why.

In France, Breaking Bad would have been a 1 episode serie : high-school teacher is diagnosed with cancer. He gets free treatment. The end.

I can't imagine living in a country where someone begs you not to call an ambulance because they don't want to get buried in debt.

How can a country, that is so rich, be so CRUEL to its own citizens? 😵‍💫

As sad as this is, it's pretty comforting and a breath of fresh air when hearing other Americans admit we are flooded with inhumane flaws and are far from "the greatest country in the world". No matter what party we kiss up to, most of them are willfully out of touch with society and blame everyone BUT themselves for our declining living conditions. Awareness is the first step towards change, and many more Americans need to see stuff like this, no matter how uncomfortable it is to find out we've been duped since the start. True patriotism is loving your country despite its flaws and demanding for things to change.

Being an Australian who has lived in the UK for 3 years. I can confirm.
Nobody outside of America thinks America is the best country in the world.

The American dream is to be rich enough to be able to ignore its glaring problems at the expense of others.

I am American but was born in Madrid, Spain and have top insurance coverage in the US. I was diagnosed with an auto immune desease 2 years ago but kept getting worse to the point I could not hardly walk. My US doctors kept on changing my medication but continued to deteriorate. My brother who is a physician in Madrid asked me to get on the first flight to Spain. They found out that on top of my auto immune desease I had a deadly bacteria and a virus. They hospitalized me immediately and kept me hospitalized 22 days, running countless expensive procedures (including colonoscopies.) The hospital looked like a 4 star hotel with amazing doctors, nurses, and food. My cost? $0. Yes, even the expensive medication ( Stelara = $1, 000/per injection per month) is included. Why? Just because I was born in Spain, a country that has amazing free health care. They saved my life for free. How about them apples?

I live in Australia. I was unemployed at the time, needed an MRI… got one, and it cost me nothing. Saved my life. Simple!

The real tragedy of America is that the richer Americans have convinced non rich people that other non rich people are the problem.

I'm in Canada, and our healthcare isn't free. I recently had major orthopaedic surgery, and had to pay $12 for parking. I'm going for an MRI and a CATscan tomorrow. I'll have to pay for parking again. :(

As an American, I can confirm this. Living here sucks.

Watching and reading go about the American healthcare system honestly feels like a dystopian horror series

As someone who grew up in Europe, the biggest scam is movies convincing me the US is a cool place to live in.

Norway.
In 7 days I had 3 trips by ambulance, and petrol is very expensive in my country, but what saved me is that Norway does not take advantage of sick people, so the cost for me was NOK 0.00.

I was taken care of for a month by the healthcare system, but I will write about that later.

The american healthcare system is incredibly smart from the perspective of the people who make money on it.

America, where everything sucks, but people aren’t educated enough to see why it sucks.

The US is a place where having last ranked health care is considered winning.
