Picking a daily shoe for the bulk of your runs – if not all of them – is a big investment. You want something that can tick a lot of boxes, from slower miles to picking up the pace when the mood takes you.

The Saucony Ride 15 is a daily training shoe that’s designed to feel lightweight and lean. Like its predecessors, it skews towards a modest level of cushioning, allowing it to be more versatile for faster efforts.

There aren't many shoes we've spoken about as much as the Hoka Mach 5. It's one of the most versatile daily training shoes we've ever tried and can handle anything from comfy easy runs all the way up to race day.

Here, Tom looks at the pros and cons of each shoe, and which he'd pick as his top choice.

I do not find the Mach 5 narrow. Almost all other Hoka shoes are a bit narrow for me but the Mach 5 upper is more accommodating.

I just picked up the Saucony Ride 15 for $30. Awesome Deal for a great shoe!

Thanks for commenting on the width (Mach 5). You could also add that the Mach 5 is available in a wide 2E as well. If you could do that for all shoes available in a wide or xwide that would be 5 seconds well spent. Really enjoy your reviews!

I’ve had the Ride 15 for a while and up to 300 miles in them to date and have to say they are in my opinion the best of the Ride series so far. Great for all paces and served me exceptionally well during marathon training. Never had any of the Machs so can’t comment. Other Hokas caused me all sorts of issues in the past mainly due to their narrowness and I now completely avoid. Good review👍🏻.

Love how you point out the strengths and weaknesses of each shoe, and what type of running each shoe is generally geared towards. In this case, the Mach 5 better suits me. Loved the Mach 4, though it did lose its responsiveness at about 300 miles for me.

For me the Mach 5 had a lot of extra space in the toe box even when I went down half a size, and I did not like the tongue. I haven’t tried the Ride 15 yet, but the 14 has a great fit, and a lovely padded tongue. And the sole looks almost new after 250 miles.

Thanks for the video. What size are your Ride 15?. What size do you use on other shoes like Nimbus 25 or Coudmonster?

Nice job. very clear and to the point. I'm curious about the New Balance fuelcell Rebel 3. Could you review that one?

I just reached 500 miles in the Mach 4, its a great daily trainer and alot more durable than I thought., if the Mach 5 has improved even slightly it would be hard to beat.

How would you compare the Mach 5 to the Rincon 3?

I have the Mach 4 and now the Mach 5, i like the version 5 more than 4.
From Saucony i have the Endorphin Speed 2 for daily runs and Pro 3 for race days.
Hoka really needs to make a super running shoe just like Saucony done with the Edorphin Pro 3!

Sorry to tell you this, but I've tried both shoes and ride 15 is more comfortable, maybe not as snappier but it's very difficult to match Saucony's comfort.
