GI Bill vs VA Vocational Rehabilitation, Which Is Better?

Many veterans are unsure about which benefit is better, the GI Bill or VA Vocational Rehabilitation, and this Office Hours video helps dispell some of the myths about the benefits.

Some counselors erroneously tell veterans they must use up their GI Bill first before using VA Voc Rehab. Still others withhold information about the latter to help veterans make informed decisions about which is best for them. When I went in I was under the GI bill. The year I got out and went to the VA to find out about getting my education benefits, they said I was under the Veep program and because I hadn't contributed anything there was no funds. A few years ago I went back to the VA to see if they could help me get an pair of glasses, and told me I "WAS" under the GI Bill but because it was over 10 years past I am Sol.

I've been out 29 years I use my GI Bill got my associates World Trade Center Survivor I have been unemployed 3 years and I have just got so disability I'm looking to go back to school now to keep my mental health going all I do is I'm in the house and I want to use the Voc Rehab when I still qualify

Big question: I have my disability compensation, after graduation using my vocational rehab, if I don’t want to work after graduating or work pro Bono will lose my compensation or pay back the tuition if I don’t get a job

any way to deal with counselor a who uses the benefits as a weapon. my counselor every time i ask a question about a benefit and documentation on why im being denied a benefit or why a benefit is the way it is and how they do the math for payments.

I don't drive because I don't have a car. I use public transportation (the bus) to get to school. VOCREHAB will provide me a $200. student parking voucher vs. paying for a $70. monthly bus pass/voucher for me. 🤔😐.
Waste. Options for transportation are needed at my school for veterans who ride the bus.

I have applied for vocrehab, I am at 50% va rating, I have been off active duty since may 2008 but the last year my back has really been messing with me and I have had to go on FMLA, time for a less physically demanding career, who can I speak with about learning the ins and outs of all this my mind is overloaded here lol

Ben. I know this is old but I have my Voc rehab appointment in a few days. I gave one year of my GI Bill to my wife and my counselor said Voc rehab is 4 years but includes then3 years of GI Bill. Is this true? Basically once Voc rehab is done you’re GI Bill is done as well?

has anyone been lectured about calling the VA hot LINE!!! and yes vso's cant do much. and has anyone ever heard of voc rehab prorating of benefits. they expect me to live off of $267.** 20% disability no use of my right arm. going for computer science. i got a substance allowance of $61.40. they explained it to me they calculate the payment by taking the payment and dividing it my the number of hours in class by the hours in the month.
