MURDERED: Grace Millane (Prime Time True Crime)
In the bustling streets of New Zealand, a story unfolded that resonated deeply in the annals of true crime stories, a tale that began with a Tinder date and ended in a tragedy. This is the story of Grace Millane, a 22-year-old British backpacker whose adventure turned into a prime time crime narrative, gripping the hearts of people across the globe.
On December 1, 2018, the day before her 22nd birthday, Grace, full of life and excitement, went on a date with Jesse Kempson, a man she had met on the popular dating app Tinder. The date seemed typical of the digital age, a blend of hope and the unknown, as they traveled to multiple locations around the vibrant city.
However, as the clock ticked into the night, Grace Millane was last seen entering Jesse's hotel around 9:40 p.m., a moment captured by CCTV, frozen in time and later scoured over in numerous crime documentaries. This was the last time Grace was seen alive.
The alarm was raised when Grace's family and loved ones, unable to reach her to wish her a happy birthday, contacted the authorities, a move that would unravel a sinister murder mystery. New Zealand police, upon reviewing CCTV footage and social media interactions, tracked down Jesse Kempson. His casual Facebook comment on Grace's profile belied the horror of the events that had unfolded.
The investigation took a macabre turn when Jesse was seen on CCTV purchasing and leaving the hotel with luggage. This luggage, a symbol of finality in this harrowing true crime story, was later found in a shallow grave in the Waitakere Ranges. Notably, this location was a haunting presence in Jesse's search history, pointing to a chilling premeditation.
Confronted with the mounting evidence, Jesse admitted to strangling Grace, a confession that echoed the controversial "50 Shades of Grey" defense, adding a bizarre twist to an already complex case. His claim of consensual strangulation did little to sway the course of justice.
In a courtroom that mirrored scenes from the most gripping true crime documentaries, Jesse was sentenced to 17 years to life for the murder of Grace Millane. The story, however, took another dark turn when Jesse was sentenced to an additional 11 years after two women courageously came forward, revealing they had been assaulted by him before Grace's murder.
The case of Grace Millane is a poignant reminder of the dangers that can lurk behind the facade of online dating, a true crime story that highlights the broader issues of violence against women and travel safety. As Jesse Kempson serves his sentence, the memory of Grace Millane endures, a tragic testament to a life tragically cut short in the shadowy corners of human interactions. Her story, woven into the fabric of true crime narratives, serves as a somber reminder of the need for vigilance and caution in an ever-connected digital world.

A life was only worth 17 years
That in itself is disgusting
Her life was worth at least the death penalty for him

He takes the life of a beautiful, vibrant young woman who was just beginning her life! He murders her, buries her, lies about her brutal killing then confesses & only gets 17yrs to life! What an insult to the young woman & her family. It speaks quite loudly that this young woman didn't have family in law & the judicial system bcuz if she did, he'd never walk free again! It's disgusting that her life was only worth 17yrs!

Girls need to be more aware of dangers.
We just aren’t taught awareness of possible dangerous situations. How terribly heart wrenching for her family and friends.

Wen I first met my b.f just to hook up, I jokingly said "am I going to end up under a bridge in the 6am news report "? 😅 I took my chance nd got in his car, it's been 6yrs now. Wen I think about it now, I can see how dangerous it was. It's a really scary thought that something like this happens. Be careful y'all 🙏🏼
