Its also bugged so that when you leave goodsprings, if you rebuild your character, you can take it again. now you have another +5 to all special stats, and with no added XP minus. Then, when you play OWB, you can rebuild your character again to get another +5 with no added XP gain. Simplification: this trait gives you +15 to all special stats with only 10 percent less XP if you keep rebuilding your character.

I really wish they would give you Wild Wasteland for free without taking a trait slot.
Just call it an extra or a toggle in the difficulty or controls menu. Like hardcore mode.

Since there is a level cap I don't care about XP loss. I just keep grinding.

You don't really need the extra XP perk, you'll get to the max level with gameplay to spare either way. Honestly, I prefer the level progression a bit slower than usual, the plus 5 to all skills is just icing on the cake

Spending a perk like that is anything but "free." The real way you offset the xp tax is by passing skill checks with your now-upgraded skills.

If you reset ur character when you leave goodsprings, you can remove the skilled perk to get rid of the 10% debuff but the skill points stay

I wouldn't reccomend taking the swift learner. There's a lot of quests in New Vegas and you will more than likely reach max level much before the final battle even with the 10% less exp handicapped.

Just play the game more. That’ll give you the extra exp and doesn’t take up a perk slot.

Honesty don’t even bother with the +10% exp perk. You’ll be max level before you know it.

Screw the 10%. There's enough exp to level up to max anyway. Plus, real pros take skilled at Doc Mitchell and then take it again when leaving Goodsprings, giving you +10 skill points instead of only 5, but with still only -10% exp.

I always found the extra skill points aren’t essential, it kind of encourages you to specialise in a few specific skills. On my last crit cowboy character I took Built To Destroy and Fast Shot

Imagine if it worked like classic skilled where you only get a perk every 3 levels

Not free at the cost of a perk and when you hit max any bonus xp perks are a waste.

Man just pulled a Science skill check irl, making this.

Forget the swift learner perk. There is more than enough quests and enemies to help you get to that 50 level cap.

Personally I love the built to destroy trait. It gives +3% to your critical hit rate before multipliers but weapons degrade 15% faster. That sounds like a bummer until you realize it works out to weapons having 97% durability vs without the trait. It seems like an equal malus to the benefit. In practice having the highest pre-multiplier critical chance makes a huge dps difference for critical centered weapons- most semi automatic rifles, energy, pistols, and melee. Only explosives and some automatics lose out. The best builds can get triple the damage per second if you max critical rate and critical damage. And weapon degrading doesn’t matter late game, even if you use max charge with the Elijah LAER. Jury rigging makes repair of rare armor and weapons easy, while dead money’s vending machine will give you dozens for free. E-de also repairs weapons for free.

Am i crazy to say that isnt as good as just getting a better perk/trait cause +5 isnt all that knowing ur gonna have most/everything you need at 70-100 around level 22.
Genuinely would like to hear the logic cause idr understand new vegas that well.

Actually, the swift learner perk doesn't perfectly offset skilled, since they stack multiplacatively. That means instead of 100% - 10% + 10%, you get 100 x .9 x 1.1, which is 99.
Meaning you'll always be missing out on 1% of your xp
