Was forced to buy a pair of hiking poles years ago as the cheap ones that I was using snapped. We were mid-way through a section hike on the AT so I needed to get what was available at the only outfitter in town. I dropped some coin and bought a pair of Lekis. I thought I spent too much, but 13+ years later and 100's of miles section hiking the AT and other locations, it was money well spent. I can say those poles probably saved me from tumbling down mountainsides, or sliding down face first on rocks many, many times. The only thing that ever went wrong with them is the carbide tip finally wore out, but all I had to do was replace the tips! It was Great, I just refurbished my tried and trusted Leki hiking poles. Then just days later, after I did a small section hike near my house, I got in the car and drove off and left my poles. Yep, they were gone. Without hesitation, I just picked up a new pair of Lekis, the Makalu Lite. I'm confident I'll get another 13+ years, so long as I don't inadvertently donate them again. LOL
