Abandoned Cabins

DYK, in the Yukon it’s against the law to remove an artifact from an archaeological or historical site without a permit. An artifact is an abandoned object of archaeological or historical interest that’s more than 45 years old. This cabin isn’t quite that old, but it’s poor form to disturb cabin sites- whether they seem abandoned or not.

You could do an entire series on these and we'd be there for it! I love finding them while hunting or exploring, really connecting to our elders/ancestors!

I have that sad happy feeling you get from this kind of place and memory. Thanks for sharing.

So much hard labor and sacrifice goes into building a place like that, and then the reward of the beautiful views, the hardship of the harsh winters, and the myriad of small steady changes to make it functional and comfortable. To see the cabins slowly give way to overgrowth and deterioration is so sad, as the memory of who that person was fades along with the structure.

Thank you! Most modern day people who go to these old homes go inside and destroy them. Thank you for what you've said about leaving them alone. I wish more people would do that.

When I was around 7, 8 years old my dream was to go into the wilderness and build a cabin for my dog and me 😅 I remember my dad said when I was older I could do that but he never mentioned buerocracy

Aww, old Dick Proeneke type guys. 🥰 (Or maybe Mad Trapper types, lol 😬)

That stove you showed. Is there a name for that type of stove? I use one every summer for about 10 years now and would love to know a bit of the history of that style. I LOVE my stove. Works so good!
