Oh wow Colin. This is possibly the most useful video I have seen on your channel. I have been wanting to do exactly what you demonstrated in this video, but could not work out how to move the selection in an Action. So not only have I learnt a cool tip for Gen Fill, I have significantly improved my knowledge for using Actions.

Just set the rectangle selection to 1024x1024 and with a single click you create a perfect selection where needed each time. The action probably will be not so useful since every photo is different and you should create one for different situation. I hope this issue will be probably solved in future version in any case.

Heads up, your generative fill layers may have been sampling from that low res layer you had. Photoshop always samples from all layers when generating these AI layers. You might have gotten an even better result by leaving the transparency prior to using the action!

Genius! I was thinking about the same solution, but I didn’t understand how automated actions worked, you have made it very clear, thanks!

Good idea for an action. You can just set the style of the Rectangular Marquee tool to Fixed Size instead of Normal and type 1024x1024 in, no need to faff about and make a square first!

We can save money know on not purchasing expensive lenses and cameras and get the same quality with cheaper versions, this is so great!

It's about time somebody else brought that up. I've been doing 1000 x 1000 just to give me a little extra margin. Thanks for the great videos.

Thanks Colin. Using the action to prevent repetitive manual fills is a great idea.

It didn’t look as hi res as the area above after using the action

We need a re-blend button so we can resize and move . I know we can re-generate but there’s been times when I loved the item and wanted to keep it!

You can actually create a fixed square selection and save from having to make a shape and then converting it into a selection. Just select fixed size in the square selection options on the top bar, then input your desired amount.

Fastest way to make a 1024 selection is using the squre selection tool and setting it to a fixed resolution of 1024.

My God, back then it was for 5 hours. Just to cover a tiny little area, now it's just one click. Such technology.

WOW....thanks. Ive been using this new Gen Fill on old photos to restore, and "recompose" them, since many were not taken with the best photographer (parents and grandparents)..I usually upscale and recover faces first with Topaz Photo AI, then expand the boarders where I need to recompose them. This works great.

Brilliant Idea!
So you can work on multiple images at the same time while the action does the work :D
