Bought it, washed it, and took REALLY good pictures. How much can we make?

Today we will do an experiment. I found this Trek Roscoe 6 Mountain Bike which was pretty much brand new. The seller had a pretty bad listing with awful photos and a very short description. I bought it for as low as he would take, washed the bike, prepared it for sale, and took some really good pictures of it. How much will we get for it?

Honestly I think the lesson here is less "if you're selling a bike, take good photos" and more "if you're buying a bike, don't get put off by bad photos". You saved a chunk of money by looking past the mediocre photos...

Jesus if someone wanted to meet me at a bike shop because they didn't trust me and then keep trying to low ball me after they find out the bikes in great shape. I'm not selling it to them lol

If you agreed at 950 and you drive to where they wanted to meet up then had the audacity to change their offer to a low ball offer to you after wasting your time and gas... I would have left immediately without neogiating and went to the back up.

Let's recap, So she says she wants the bike, gets it checked out by bike mechanics, all good, looks mint accommodation, proceeds to LOWBALL an offer after getting it verified it's still practically brand new, also most likely knows by now that it has an extra $100+ in brand new products that are freebees and still haggles to $900. 😂 I would have walked! Some people, I tell ya!

Flip bike! One of my favorite series. I stumbled upon the channel being an RC addict; now I'm a MTN Bike addict too. Lol

This Flip Bike content is too good! Unfortunately I had somebody break into my house to steal a recent mountain bike project of mine. Proper gutted, but absolutely ready to get another one and go through the fixing up process all over again. Your Flip Bike series has been a big motivator for me to get into bikes and fixing them up. Love your approach and attitude to everything you do. From New Zealand, thank you!

As a real estate broker, I see this all the time - poorly marketed homes selling for much less than they should. Prior to this seller-friendly market we're in now, they wouldn't sell at all.

I would gladly pay your asking price for the work you did. Knowing it was gone over with by someone as meticulous as you are makes it a steal not to mention the extras you threw in. I'm just as picky with my stuff when it comes to keeping stuff clean and original. Presentation is EVERYTHING! I used to detail vehicles. It's amazing what you can do with some elbow grease. I've seen some pretty impressive transformations with just a little housekeeping. Lady got a screaming deal.

There's probably a good reason why Seth didn't proceed with a full rundown of the sale. The buyer took advantage of Seth's generosity. Pricing it at 999 is already a steal and her decision to meet up at a bike shop and to suddenly offer 860 to Seth is a scummy move. Didn't they agree to a 950 deal?

I somewhat hope the buyer didn't get the freebies lol

The real lesson here is, don't buy a $1200 bike if you THINK you might want to get in to biking

Idk if it's "greedy" to expect someone to pay the price they agreed to **and** had a shop/mechanic verify the bike was actually worth **at least** that much... It's kind of a weird spot to put you in to start with (i.e. haggling in front of a bike shop), and having a mechanic say "yeah, the thing's mint; we sell'em for $1200 right inside" and she still turns around and says "$860, deal?" Pretty uncool, imo. Point being: you're generous, a good steward of the sport, and while it's obviously not all about the money, this could set kind of a bad precedent (though of course this kind of behavior is rife elsewhere on Marketplace). And I get it, she was trying to a) not get taken advantage of, and b) get a good deal, and that's totally fine -- but both those points would have been true even if she'd paid $999 or certainly $950. Taking $900 makes Seth the one who got taken advantage of, and he def doesn't deserve it given all he's done for the sport in the Asheville area.

That lady got a better deal than you. You had to drive and pay gas to get to the guy, haggle and get a bike for $800, then proceed to take it home, clean it, and give it a tune up, which would probably be around $100 at an actual shop. Plus you threw in extra goodies, basically that lady payed the price you did with an added tune up lol. If it wasn’t for the youtube video that investment would not be worth it regardless of good or bad photos.

Seth literally lost money by agreeing to 900 dollars even at 999$ it would've still been a steal deal, considering gas prices these days you definitely had a lose there but at least u get it back cuz this videos definitely blowing up once again. Keep up the good work Seth love your videos definitely makes my day.

Seth cleaning and tuning a bike is worth more than $100.

He’s mentioned a number of “beginner errors”. I would love to see him go over a deep dive of professional quality service/cleaning.

Soooo...all told a net loss. Your valuable time, fuel to transport the bike for both buy and sell, and the work you put into cleaning/adjusting it. In terms of flip, net loss...in terms of education on what not to do...priceless. Great video and absolutely worth my time. Thanks much.

You can always use a soft light filter, like a bed sheet, to soften the direct sun light. A price of foil insulation works as a reflector to help with shadows.

Now let’s be honest. If he didn’t have everything he ALREADY had, how much would he have spent ??? Camera price. Tune up price. And how many hours did you spend on everything. Waiting time on the photo shoot and all….

Hey, Seth! I have an amazing Giant Farrago that I cant ride anymore after an injury. I'd love to donate it, find it a good home, and see what you could do with it! It's more of a road hybrid bike but maybe you could make it MTB friendly! Lmk, cheers

A video detailing "newbie mistakes" would be a great idea! At my shop I often see folks come in with an issue that has a very simple solution or is cause by uneducated bike handling. You'd be surprised how many people ask "I'm not supposed to pedal when I shift right?" might be a good video to show common and simple mistakes and misconceptions for new bike owners!
