"La Mer" is a song by Charles Trenet, based on a poem he wrote when he was sixteen years old. The song was first recorded by the French singer Roland Gerbeau in 1945.

When I lived in Orleans back in the early 1950s, I used to listen to French radio with my Mom, who spoke fluent French, and she would translate the meaning of the words to us kids. I sure do miss her and I miss those days of joy as well!

I clearly remember when Bobby Darin's version of this song was on my radio in 1959. I was 11 and it spoke to me in a way which seemed magical. This is more like the original version (before Bobby Darin) and still warms my heart. I grew up in Nashville, TN and performed in local rock bands in high school and college. It was too much fun! I don't know the French language, but I like the way this song is sung by Tatiana. Her voice is uniquely beautiful and the band does an excellent job as well.
