How an Admissions Officer Reviews College Applications

Hear directly from a panel of admissions officers from Scripps College, Swarthmore College, and the University of Texas at Austin on the process and thinking they use when going through college applications.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Windsor Jordan Jr. is Associate Dean of Admissions and Director of Access and Equity at Swarthmore College. He graduated from Swarthmore in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology, with a minor in Black Studies. After graduation, Windsor spent a number of years working in after school programming in Philadelphia before earning a M.A. in American Studies from Lehigh University where he studied Hip Hop and Black popular culture. He returned to Swarthmore eight years ago to begin work in the admissions office. He is a huge Hip Hop fan and a sometimes chess player.

Dr. Veronica Pecero is currently the Director of Access and Inclusion within the Office of Admissions at The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to this role, she led the holistic review application process in the Office of Admissions, worked as a graduate associate with the Student Advocacy Center at The Ohio State University, and as a graduate assistant with the TRIO programs on the UT Austin campus. She is a first-generation college student from Houston and a proud TRIO alumna. She earned her B.A. (Government), B.S. (Political Communication), and M.Ed. (College University Student Personnel Administration) from The University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The Ohio State University.

Lyanne Dominguez is a first-generation professional in higher education and currently serves as the Senior Assistant Director in the Office of Admission at Scripps College. She is a Scripps College alumna from the Class of 2013 and recently earned her Master’s degree in Higher Education and Educational Justice with a research focus on college access for QTPOC high school seniors.
