Honestly, it put me into relief knowing how random it is. It makes me not question my self worth.

Rejected from Swarthmore, UMich, Vanderbilt, WashU, and so many more…not even a waitlist, but accepted by Yale on the last day. Yes, randomness is a huge factor and that’s why we apply to so many schools.

The randomness of the process is the reason for so many applications by each applicant.

A friend of mine got rejected by U of Michigan (out of state), Northwestern, and Duke; however, he got into MIT.

the number of dislikes is the number of those admission officers being exposed lol

A friends kid got rejected by Duke even though the parent was an alum (legacy) yet got into Princeton. True that it's random. But legacy helps as does the ability to pay full fare, even though they say they're need blind (they're not).

How on earth do these admission officers manually handle 30, 000 applications in a college?
I can't imagine that there are 100s of such officers in a college.
It's impossible unless they use some computer algorithm to filter out most of the applications.

is true, not only with college admissions... basically with everything in life, the more elite the group is, the more they look into your overall life potential, isn't life exciting?

It’s mostly money. They will pick the students who can pay full or near full tuition, with some token disadvantaged students to say “Look! We’re diverse!”

As much as it is difficult to accept a three hour test can be do or die, the ACT/SAT is the only objective measure.
