Season 20, Episode 19, The Taxman Cometh,
Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) are called in to investigate the death of a young heiress, Annie Douglas (guest star Morgan Lynch), who died of an apparent drug overdose. The detectives begin to suspect her cousin, Randy (guest star Daniel Abeles), whose inheritance was increased due to Annie's death. As the investigation continues, Annie’s greedy relatives reveal another recent loss in the group. The case becomes more than a family matter as an experimental cancer clinic, fraudulent adoptions and unborn children are tied into the case.

Show Synopsis: In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories. After my grandmother died everything was left to my dad's sister. Dad died in 1970. When she passed each of us grandkids got $1, 000 and several momentos. No fighting. Just surprised and appreciative. Was able to finish my son's bedroom remodel.

One of the most convoluted Law and Order plots of all time.

Wills and money really bring out the very worst in too many people. No-one is entitled to anything in anothers will, a familial connection means nothing. If they want to give all their money to a bloody cats home, that is their right. An inheritance is a gift from the grave so be grateful and remember who gave it to you.

Exactly why I've always hated being the beneficiary of large sums of money!

"Greedy Inheritance" makes about as much sense as "Greedy Pencil."
I think what the uploader meant was "Greedy Heir" or "Greedy Heirs."
It's OK though. I made a mistake once too.

Whoever had left that inheritance must really have had a lot of money and that is motive enough to kill. Some sort of payoff? Where did all their money come from after henry died? after my grandfather on my dad's side died, he left everything to my grandmother. Each of my dad's family members cousins aunts uncles etc gets 2500 each and that was during my dad's visit to china about a month ago

I’m almost as terrified of being a millionaire as I am of being broke, and this entire episode is exactly why.

My kids have my permission to do this to me if it means we don’t burn our money on taxes.

this is all very fascinating. I doubt tho that in real life detectives in any police department would have the investigative curiosity, or even be allowed, to spend time on a case past the initial conclusion that allows them to take a case to court, close a file and score one under the 'solved' statistic.
Unlike detectives on TV, detectives have a workload of multiple cases at the same time, all of them unrelated, and only so many manhours to devote to any one of them.
