DIY Stripping, Sanding, & Staining a Deck (Part 1) Benjamin Moore Arbor Coat Deck Stain.
I briefly explain the materials and tools needed in order to properly Strip, Sand, & Stain a Deck. I use the Benjamin Moore REMOVE to strip the deck, and then the Benjamin Moore Brightener next to neutralize the pH level of the deck boards and eliminate the graying effect. I mistakenly said the Remover is an Acid, it's actually a Alkaline. The Acid is in the Brightener, which effectively neutralizes the pH of Benjamin Moore Remover.
I'm going to be using my Rockwell RK4245K Vibrafree Orbital Sander to sand it using 80 Grit sandpaper. I'm will be staining it with Benjamin Moore Arbor Coat Deck Stain.

I can appreciate the time you spent explaining and it was very informative. I would have liked for the video to be longer and show you completing the job, unless that is on another video. To the person that called him an imbecile, if you do not have anything nice to say do not say anything at all.

Russ, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help that your great series of videos has been to me. I did a bunch of research on refinishing decks before I started, and it can get overwhelming with all of the different opinions. I had help yesterday, but was kind of left alone mid-project and so was more than a little freaked out. Watching these videos and having you explain things in your calm, friendly way has kind of been like being talked down off a ledge!!!

Dude, props man. I stutter as well and it's nice seeing you fight thru it and do this anyways. But honestly I'm redoing my deck and i really appreciate this information! Thank you

I may try that - thanks.  These are true 1 3/4 by six set with 30year old nails so my guess is they wont be fun removing but I will try one and see. I cant believe how this deck held up - no rot at all - wish it would just rot away so I can have an excuse to build new. The contractor who built the second deck was amazed. He wanted so bad to say rip it down and build new but he couldn't.

My house has latex stain on cedar shingles (siding). I was told (by Benjamin Moore) to use a garden hose and not powerwash or it could damage the wood itself. They also recommend the 2 products you demonstrate. Amazing that people had told me that stain doesn't peel or crack and only paint does; now I know better:)

Followed your whole process, though most of the products used were different (but very similar). My deck looked so old before, but now looks so new and has that fresh paint smell! Thanks

Hi-

Thanks for asking! I used a 3000 PSI pressure washer with a yellow tip. No, its not necessary to go down to bare wood each time, but try and get rid of as much as the old failing coating as possible.

Hi Megan-

That is something you just deal with by re-staining time to time. The UV rays will lighten the color over time.
Good luck on October 9th!

This is one of the best videos I have found.  The sander you used is discontinued and I also read that disks were proprietary and extremely expensive for the Rockwell RK4245K Vibrafree Orbital Sander. Can you recommend another one that is similar?
