FWIW; We had stripped and refinished the wood casing around window frames and doors in our last house. I had discovered that yet another step was required prior to re-staining and urethane.. we had to use wood bleach. The wood bleach helped to allow to old wood to accept the new stain evenly.

For those that are wondering about cracked/split wood: if you plan to stain; fill with wood putty and lightly sand when dried.
If plan to paint you could use bondo or putty.

After scraping wipe off excess stripping with mineral spirits, let dry and then your sand paper won’t gum up.

Thanks. I've used two different strippers and have quite a ways to go. I have a mouse sander but can't find a rough grit sandpaper to use with it to get that stubborn paint off. I'm not giving up.

I never wear shoes at home and my family and friends think I'm nuts, but I don't care. My feet have many years of stripper/stain splash, I think it gives them character.

Hmmm, not sure if I'd use that chemical stripper with bare feet!! That stuff is nasty. Sanding, stripping, I hate both, ugh!

What grit sand paper did you use with the palm sander? I found the same sander you have at a second hand store. I found that Harbor Frieght and Home Depot do not carry grit for that palm sand under 80 grit. It seems that Amazon and Lowes has a lower than 80 grit. In order to strip most old paint off don't you find you need lower than 80? I'm not as experienced. I know I used 36 grit to strip a large wood floor, but I used belt sanders.

If you put a white wax on a piece can you then use polyurethane over top to seal it? Or, it the white wax the top product

How did you sand the details in your armoire? I recently bought a church pew with details on the side and I’m not sure how to get the stain off with out messing up the details.
