Having finally tried both HTC Vive and Playstation VR extensively, I can finally bring you a hands-on comparison between the two headsets!

Good vid, thanks for sharing. I own an HTC Vive and have demoed PSVR 4 times now. I'm utterly convinced PSVR is going to be an exponentially more successful product. The lower resolution compared to the Vive is barely discernible, and the Move controller positional tracking worked surprisingly well. The HMD itself is, in my opinion, leaps and bounds ahead of the Vive and Oculus. I've tried Gear VR, Oculus, Vive, and PSVR is by far the lightest, most comfortable fitting, easy to put on HMD. But it's the game content where PSVR really shines. There is a much higher quality standard of game content compared with the Vive. The Vive is like the wild west right now, anything goes. This can be great for innovation but not so great for setting quality standards. At a fraction of the price of the Vive and Oculus, a 40m PS4 user base, the easy of use, and AAA game content will make PSVR the clear winner in the 2016 VR wars.

I've been digging around for exactly this kind of video ever since the release of the Vive and me having tried it just a few weeks later. Like you I was completely sold on the tech itself but still sceptical considering the pricetag of both it and the considerable upgrade I'd have to make on my rig and ofc wondering what kind of support I could expect the Vive to get when it comes to what were actually interested in - the games! This is the first comprehensive comparison I've seen so far of what are (in my opinion) the only two reasonable VR units on the market today. Im not counting Oculus because it, at the moment, doesn't allow the player to use motion controls which I feel is what solidifed the immersion i felt when i tried the Vive.

Tl;dr summary - Thank you for being the first I've seen in months to actually answer a question I as a consumer care about.

Nice video.  Been looking for comparison vids for a while. How did you find the controller tracking when facing away from the camera?  I would have thought that the controllers would be at times untrackable due to being blocked from the camera by your body.  The VIVE can track any direction due to the lighthouse placement covering the whole play space but I think the PS VR's one camera tracking solution might cause some issues in this scenario.

Finally, someone that feels the same way I do. My buddy has the Vive and we both played it and played the PS VR and to me they didn’t feel that different from each other. I love the controls of the Vive but the headset is not that great. He agreed with me, but you have so many people calling the PS VR crap and they never tried it. They are going by the stats and they also are going by the price, the more it cost the better it is and that is so not true. Thank you for this awesome video and I’m sure you will get someone on here calling you a fanboy or something else.

I didn't try Vive yet, but a year ago I tried the PSVR and Oculus, both blew my mind and I didn't notice any differences about the experience and the feel.
That's why I pre-ordered PSVR the day one they announced it.

Hey Endigo - Thanks for the VR review - Do you know when you demoed the games if you were running of the PS4 Pro or the standard system? I heard with the standard system theres some screen tearing and other problems to be annoying. With the Pro system it runs much better on.

U forgot to talk about the amount of games. For example because HTC Vive works with a PC it has and will have more developers making games for it that means psvr wont have as much games as the HTC Vive. So im still sticking with the Vive.

I really enjoyed your comparison. I really got into VR when my coworker got the Gear VR for his new phone and let me try it out. Even though I am an apple iPhone user, I was so impressed that I bought a used Galaxy s6 and a Gear VR off craigslist to use for VR only. The Gear VR with a Steel series XL controller works great and there are some great experiences on it. My two favorites are Dreadhalls and Minecraft VR. I havae also tried many of the Playstaion VR demos in my area; Battlezone, Eve Valkarie, Headmaster, ocean decent, super hyper cube, and my favorite so far the London Heist. I recently got to try the HTC Vive and I was surprised that it wasn't much different from the Playstation VR. I actually prefer the Playstation's over the Vive and am looking forward to my preorder. I will wait until the next generaton of Vive and Rift before spending thousands on something that isn't much better than the Playstation VR.

You did a great job on comparing the Vive and PSVR. Having tried the Vive I can say that VR is awesome! My only computer is a 2015 Macbook Air so no PC VR-headsets for me. It's great to hear that PSVR headset is good enough. After all 50% cheaper than the Vive so one can't expect to get an 1:1 experience. But close enough it seems. Most def. looking forward to PSVR. Not getting it this year but maybe next spring as birthday gift to my self. :)
