Oculus Rift vs HTC Vive vs PlayStation VR!

Checking how the Oculus Rift stacks up vs HTC Vive and PlayStation VR!
At GDC 2016 I got to review the Sony PlayStation VR for the PS4, HTC Vive the first SteamVR headset and the Oculus Rift. As virtual reality gets bigger these are the best VR headsets for 2016 regardless of if you're using a gaming PC or console like the PlayStation 4. With some of the best graphics, controllers and games for VR yet the future looks bright for Oculus, HTC, Valve and Sony.

The Vive doesn't "need" the extra space, it is functionally the same as the oculus when using it sitting down.

I personally prefer the HTC Vive because it comes with controllers and from what I've seen the tracking is perfect. Plus it links with your phone for calls, SteamVR, and a camera on the headset to show obstacles. More features for slightly more money

Another thing you forgot to mention is that Playstation VR also uses the PS Move and PS Camera for a very similar experience to the Vive. When I tried it out, the controls were fluid, and the controllers felt very comfortable as acting hands for the vr experience.

I picked up the HTC Vive. The room-scale technology definitely makes the experience even more immersive. There's a really satisfying feeling being able to walk around, kneel or bend down to take a closer look at objects in VR space to appreciate detail - it adds another layer of exploration.
Considering price, buying additional touch controllers for the Oculus rift will end up closer to the price of the HTC Vive but it will still lack the room-scale tech.

So many people said I was wrong when I talked about spacing concerns with HTC VIVE, yeah it's really cool but... how many kids have that much dedicated space? So this will mainly be sold to people with a good amount of space already.

Hands down the Vive!! Room scale and resolution makes ALL the difference!!

Hey Austin, great review! On the topic of room scale and whether or not it is practical or not, Valve released some numbers on the Vive and 81% of users are meeting the minimum space requirements for room-scale. So it seems that the pros outweigh the cons for 81% of buyers, and that the holodeck experience is awesome enough that users are accommodating for it. Impractical? Looks like plenty of buyers think otherwise.

The Vive is amazing but I'm curious how it will adapt to an at home experience. Every time I've demoed it, I've had to have someone help me put it on and make sure that I don't trip over the long cables connected to the PC.

You missed the mark on this one, Austin. The Vive can be used for seated experiences like Oculus, but the latter doesn't have a roomscale option. People have been playing Elite Dangerous seated with their Vives for months now. On the other hand, if you want to play roomscale experiences, only the Vive will offer that. If you want VR controllers, only the Vive launches with that. Calling it "impractical" suggests it can't do seated experiences. Sigh.

Fantastic comparison video. I would go for the HTC Vive. I love the ability to walk around and immerse yourself completely in a game. That is a big selling point for me!

I will go for "My eyes" VR headset. It has really good quality!
