Kelvin color temperature is derived what is called the Black Body radius. It is a piece of cold steel that is heated up and has it heats up it changes colors as it heats up. 2200 degrees warm get whiter as it approaches 3000K where the best 100CRI lights was measured which is halogen at 2950, then as heats up more 3500, 4100K standard fluorescent moving on to other colors. That is why it is measured in Kelivin Degrees
