Watching this video, you can tell that the music scene in the UK was very different from that of the US within the same year. About half of the British hits from 1973 fell under the glam rock genre, and with some exceptions were generally more upbeat than the American hits, many of which fell within the R&B, adult contemporary, or soft rock. The chart topper in the US that was probably most similar to what was being played in the UK was Frankenstein, while Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree was the only shared hit from both countries.
Overall, though, I think this was a good year for both countries, despite the differences in style. My favorites from this list are Blockbuster, Come On Feel the Noise, and Merry Xmas Everybody. Other sings I'm not as familiar with, although it is a bit of a shame that Donny Osmond was getting more attention abroad than some other more significant American artists from the same period, and that many other British artists in this video either never had an American hit or failed to have as much significance if they did find success.

Most child stars end up total wrecks -sometimes through sheer embarrassment at their awfulness-so it's amazing that Jimmy Osmond is not only the one member of the Osmond family to keep the clan together, he's an all round regular nice chap, So much so you can forgive him for "Long Haired Lover" and other musical atrocities he committed :D

Were there a "Hot 100 #1s for 1973" video, its run would be more or less 3:05, provided each clip of each #1 was :06.

I've always hated the UK charts in the 70s when compared to the US charts for the most part. Only time the UK Charts where better in my opinion where the 90s
