Brazilian pastel is a typical Brazilian fast-food dish, consisting of half-circle or rectangle-shaped thin-crust pies with assorted fillings, fried in vegetable oil. The pastel is classified in Brazilian cuisine as a Salgado. It is traditionally sold on the streets, in open-air marketplaces, or in fast-food shops known as pastelarias.

Pastel is a delicious dish all over Brazil that can be found on every street corner. It is a common food for the people from Latin America's largest country. This street food favorite comes in so many varieties. Pastel is often enjoyed with sugarcane juice, so if you ever happen to be in Brazil, you'll need to remember this phrase: "Pastel e Caldo de Cana."

In this cooking recipe video, Yum Lounge presents how to make a Brazilian pastel recipe. We showed all the parts very carefully and step by step so let's watch and learn Brazilian Pastel.

Black Pepper - 1 TSP
Red Chilli - 1 TSP
Salt - According to taste.

1) Take a bowl, put all-purpose flour, butter, egg, vinegar, and water as required. Now knead it with ur hands. Once done, cover it with cling wrap and set it aside for 30 minutes.
2) Let's make the fillings, Add 2 TBSP of oil in a pan, set your heat to medium,
3) Next, add Minced Meat, chopped garlic cloves, chopped tomato, chopped onion, and give it a stir.

Put your minced meat in the center, put the 2nd rectangle on top of it. And close the sides with the help of a fork. Repeat the same process for each pastel.
6) Deep fry them at 350F until they are golden brown from each side. Once done, Put them on a cooling rack for a few minutes so you won't lose their crispiness.
7) Your amazing, pocket-size, delicious Brazilian Pastel is ready to be served.

These Brazilian Pastel are perfect as a light-snack, though it doesn't mean you cannot have more than one. ;)

Brazilian pastel are very similar to fried empanadas, but I guess it's totally wrong to say it this way because they both had quite different origins: pastel was invented by Japanese immigrants. They were trying to make gyoza or something like that with with local ingredients (pastel dough has cachaça). This is not the story of south american empanadas

in Indonesia there is also the same food as this, only the filling is different if in Indonesia the filling is potato, stir-fried carrots and boiled eggs, and uniquely the name is the same, namely pastel

Instead of frying you can actually bake them in the oven if you want.

Is that hard to separate things. That's not empanadas, empanadas are Argentinian, also we don't speak Spanish.

Actually, the dough layer is way too much thick. It could be thinner. And rerolling the dough every time is a waste of time, you could have spread once and then cut each piece of dough.

I understand the similarity but it's weird for us brazilians for you to call it "Empanadas".
In portuguese, "Empanado"/"Empanada" Is what you guys call Breaded beef / chicken.

In SPANISH SPEAKING countries, then yes, Empanada is quite like what Pastel is.
Oh and the plural is "Pastéis".

It's a parallel of Pakistani samosa
