My dad, who was born in Santa Catarina, Brazil, used to make these on occasion when I was growing up. He used black olives instead of green, but otherwise they were very similar. He also made some stuffed with cream cheese and grated cheddar. He would deep-fry the leftover strips of dough and then sprinkle them with sugar and cinnamon for dessert. Fond memories!

Thats cool. I never thought to use wonton wrappers. Great if you dont have time to make the pastry.

Did you guys know that the Brazilian pastel and the Japanese Gyoza have the same origin? Both are modern versions of the Chinese Jiaozi.

Eu muito amo de pasteis! São deliciosos! They're one of my favourite things to eat in Brasil. And these beef ones are my favourite kind. They're almost impossible to find in London (where I'm from), so muito obrigada pra sua receita. Eu vou fazer pasteis! ❤️❤️❤️

Um bom pastel de carne JAMAIS usamos óleo para fritar a carne pois deixa o recheio gorduroso e a carne depois fica estranha.
Os tradicionais fazem da seguinte forma: Colocam a carne moída na panela com os temperos (alho, cebola, salsinha, sal e pimenta) e usa bem pouca água para cozinhar a carne e deixá-la soltinha e cozida. Daí ela fica soltinha e sequinha, deixando o pastel mais leve e prazeiroso de se comer. Na carne po-de colocar azeitona, ovo cozido, ervilha, catupiry e o que mais quiser. MAs o segredo é deixar o recheio sequinho e leve.

In Malaysia, we call them Karipap, or 'Curry Puff'..
Usually the meat is cooked with some curry spices.

I usually make mine without oil, in the air fryer... That way, I get something between Pastel and Fogaza, but still very good...😊

observa que sua carne moída ficou pedaçuda e o recheio mais úmido. Se usasse água no lugar do óleo, a carn ficaria super soltinha e bem leve. Isso é o segredo daquele pastel delicioso que comemos nas feiras livres do país inteiro.

Hi, we call them sambosa and we make them with cheese and mint also.

We call it Empanada in Philippines. But i think it's not our traditional recipe though
