One thing that is always overlooked is the fact it was Jews who revered Jesus as God. Yes people like Augustus were proclaimed dieties but worshipping a person is anathema to Jews. The fact Jews like Peter, Paul, James etc revered Jesus and God is an incredible transformation in Jewsish belief that was unprecedented.

Tom Holland is so well read in the history of antiquity he can't help but testify to Jesus as the most amazong and central person in human history I have listened to so many of his interviews and they are always so satisfying to the intellect while also uplifting the spirit within to say JESUS IS LORD, JESUS IS GOD!!

Tom Holland makes a good argument about the reach and effect of Jesus ... which one would expect if he were who he said he was.

I’m not religious at all, don’t believe in the resurrection etc. Having said that, however, there’s no denying that Western civilization post the Ancient Greco-Roman World has its foundation in Christianity and has shaped our World for 2, 000 years.

I have trouble truly believing in the resurrection but was astonished how sound are the arguments. Above all, how was it that so many believed it so strongly as to suffer extreme hardships?

„The stickability of His sayings“. 😂 I couldn’t have said it worse myself.

The Apostles saw it the way they did ... because the risen Jesus had made this clear to them.

Your work is so important. However PLEASE cover the bit Apple idol that stares at the viewer for a large part of the video. Iconography is real and this idol has shaped the modern world in tremendously unchristian ways.

Again, so much respect and appreciation.

I really can't see anyway around this. We're talking about a few hundred people overcoming the power of the Jewish state and Roman authority. This didn't happen without certainly. It was the miracles and the resurrection. People saw and knew. They weren't going to lie about it for anyone.

That's nice, two thousand years trying to answer: "Who is Jesus?"

At the end it is suggested that ‘the simplest explanation’ is that ‘Jesus is the Son of God’ as if the meaning of that statement is unproblematic and unequivocal. (Whereas, in fact, its meaning changes from one universe of discourse to another, or from one language game to another.) The meaning of the Easter event is a function of the ‘altitude’ of the receiver’s consciousness. It seems that, when it comes to unpacking the event, so many Christians are content to inhabit a pre-modern mindset which they would regard as quaint in any other context. The truth is that the significance of the event has grown and developed in lockstep with the development of human awareness. To limit it to some sort of literal, physical occurrence is actually to sell it short. It is much bigger than that and it is as much about all being as it is about an individual man (that, of course, is a post pre-modern perspective, representing a way of seeing and understanding more typical of contemporary awareness).

It's promising to hear Holland, a highly-respected historian and writer, whose books I greatly enjoy, talk like this. I hope he eventually accepts Jesus.

Too many supernatural events in the life of Jesus Christ around miracles and then the resurrection were too great to write off as hear say, the Jewish leaders had him killed as they feared him they feared losing all their power and would not accept him as the messiah but it was all prophesied in the Old Testament so the prophecy was fulfilled !

One troubling issue with the resurrection is that on several occasions various people, including his disciples, failed to recognize him (e.g. Luke 24:13-31). He had to say or do something to convince them that he was who he said he was.

Of course they believed that Jesus had risen ... because they met the risen Jesus.

Skepticism doesn't explain everything.

Wait till they discover that Hebrew Cosmology is true too. It was good enough for Moses.

Holland is a coward. I am born 2000 years post this era, and I have an exalted understanding of Jesus without any proof.
