Nestled in the rolling hills of Corrèze, France, Teide Castle is steeped in history serving as a hospital in World War I and a college during World War II. After being abandoned for over 30 years, the castle was in ruins. Despite its dilapidated state, Francis and Benoit saw an opportunity of a lifetime. Purchasing the castle for just $170,000, they dove headfirst into a monumental renovation, taking on personal debts and later opening the project to public investment.

This video captures their incredible highs and daunting lows, from demolition challenges and intricate roof repairs to the heart-stopping moment when a collapsing chapel almost derailed everything. Watch as local artisans, global investors, and sheer determination come together to breathe new life into this historic treasure.

Will they achieve the impossible? Let’s dive in and find out!

Although I’m extremely grateful they saved the castle. They absolutely missed the Mark with the theme of the interior. Doing a modern design will look aged and out of date in 10 years.
Actually, I’d say to me it already feels a little out of date now
But if they had stayed with a classical design that you would see in a castle, the update that classical design with modern amenities that complimented it would be timeless
It’ll never go out of style

The outside is a four star hotel.
The inside is a Holiday Inn.

Gorgeous exterior of the castle... with a soulless interior you can find in any inner city business hotel

I am glad the château was saved from decay. However, if I was staying at a 12th century castle, I would not expect my room to look like something I would see at a Holiday Inn. Every bit of history has been stripped out of the interiors of this formerly historic building. The restaurant extension is a hideous eyesore on this otherwise gorgeous and romantic chateau.😢

All due respect for saving the house - I'll give You 100% credit for that. However, I would have done many things differently. In my opinion, after the renovation, the house—and especially the interiors—were too clean and clinical; all of the building's history is gone. Old details haven’t been preserved, honored or brought back enough. A building like that needs old objects, furniture, and details inside it. The rooms were just like in any new hotel—as if they had been furnished with IKEA furniture. Why?

Absolutely stunning restoration, humans need to do more of this, stop tearing down beautiful historical sites and take the time to restore them back to their glory

They have their own YouTube channel (chateau du theil) that I've been following for a couple of years now. It's in French but they have good subtitles and it was fascinating to watch the detail and how much effort they put into it. It turned out absolutely lovely.

“Preserving the chateau’s aesthetic charm” WHAT?!

The transformation is just remarkable considering what Francis and Benoit had to begin with. A lot of hard, hard work. The interior is modern and I see a lot of negative comments but remember many laws govern construction of public restaurants and hotels. It may not have been possible to retain some historical features and still meet building codes. If all the YouTube videos are viewed, it is documented that quite a few historical features were saved at great effort like the Knights Templar stone from the Chapel and outside fountains. Great job and good work for everyone who worked on this project.

This is the second or third time this channel picked up a project I have been watching over the years.
I would not consider this as staying in a castle.

I dont know, i saw a lot more than 2 people working on the castle. So saying 2 friends with no training in the field dit it is definitly missleading and wrong.

It's lovely I guess, but if I'm spending good money to stay at a castle I want to see antiques, lot's of bare stone, medieval weaponry on the walls and maybe a suit of armor or three. This is just not the castle fantasy that most people have.

All that beautiful old oak …I can’t believe non was repurposed…usally the rot can be cut out …cement in dry stone walls …imagine the rooms upstairs with the beams and purlins on view …shame it looks like any normal hotel…appreciate all the work but not the character I’m afraid….dont like to knock it as some people may enjoy it ….id rather a rustic charm wonky aged style xx❤

It’s a beautiful restoration job on the exterior, but the rooms have no old castle charm. Sad to go so modern on such a historical building.

Nicht schlecht. Bei uns käme der Denkmalgeschutz noch dazwischen, das das Gebäude genauso aussieht wie früher wie: Fenster, Türen, Dach, Schornstein usw.

Good side is they salvaged some of outside siluette and you can somewhat say it didnt crumble to dust. Bad side is...they didnt restore it, they even didnt renovate it..they remodeled to be modern generic hotel, all historic accents are lost. Yes, work what they did was gigantic and outcome modern and usable but place is now bit butaforia and that makes it cheap despite cost. I would never want book room in castle hotel what is castle only by name. IF i want modern i go to real modern hotel. Kind of sad story....but yeah, at least landmark is there and if you drive by it might look even nice.

Amazing accomplishment for sure, but for me this misses the mark. I would not consider this as staying in a castle.

I would want all the walls to be natural castle stone look. That's the fun of being in a castle.
