Easy Hot Cross Buns Recipe
This Classic/Traditional Hot Cross Buns Recipe is easy to make and It is super soft and fluffy. Just perfect time for Easter!

AUTHENTIC SPICED HOT CROSS BUNS RECIPE:
Ingredients:
500 g flour or 4 cups (all purpose)
240 mL or 1 Cup warm milk (divide into ½ cup portions)
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast or 1 pkg
100 g or ½ cup granulated white sugar
56 g unsalted butter melted (¼ cup)
1 egg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp pumpkin spice (you can use mixed spice)
¼ tsp ground cloves or more
¼ tsp grated nutmeg
1 tbsp vanilla extract (optional)
1 tsp salt
Orange zest r (from one large orange) or use lemon zest
100 - 125g California raisins or you can use dried fruit
( I like extra raisins and prefer soak overnight with black tea )
60 g orange peel (home made) or you can use mixed peel
For the cross :
20 g confectioner's sugar 2 tbsp
75 g AP flour (½ cup, measured by spoon and level method
5 tbsp water 60mL - 75mL
In this classic hot cross buns recipe, I adding something extra to make them soft and fluffy, which is by adding Tangzhong
So, WHAT THE HECK IS TANGZHONG?
Tangzhong is a Japanese cooking technique used in making milk bread.
(mixing a small amount of flour and milk and cook them on a low to medium heat to make a runny paste. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
As the liquid heats up, the flour absorbs the hot liquid, creating expanded starch molecules and gluten structures.
Add this paste to the rest of the ingredients, to elevate the flavor and texture of bread, with delightfully soft, fluffy results.
