Dealerships Just KILLED The NEW 2023 Nissan Z

The new 2023 Nissan Z just got RUINED by Dealerships. The Nissan Z is finally hitting dealerships with the release of 240 Nissan Z Proto special editions. The 2023 Nissan Z Proto Spec offers exclusivity, excitement, and exhilarating performance. With only 240 being built, seeing one will be rare. And seeing one stopped – well, this is a sports car that loves to be driven. That last sentence is where all the problems with the 2023 Nissan Z launch begin.

This... is how Dealerships KILLED the new 2023 Nissan Z.

Nissan is slowly dying, and the release of the new 2023 Nissan Z was supposed to be the car that dug them out of their 6 ft hole in the ground. But as dealers always do, insane markups over MSRP screwed things up for the iconic Japanese brand and completely killed the 2023 Nissan Z launch.

If the 2023 Nissan Z wants to be competitors like the Toyota Supra, Ford Mustang, Subaru BRZ or Toyota GR Corolla... it needs the sales numbers to back it up. It must be a huge win for Nissan. Hopefully we can stop this disaster that car dealerships have created.

Are you going to buy a Nissan Z when dealers finally get more of them?

I’m a manager at a Chevy dealership and we have absolutely refused to markup our vehicles . Honestly cheaper to buy a new unit then a used one right now . We’ve sold 6 c8s at msrp, it’s the greedy dealerships that are the problem .

Time for the dealerships to go the way of the dinosaurs. It's time to buy directly from manufacturer online. Oh wait, in this country of freedom, there are laws that dealerships lobbied to make doing that illegal.

Went to a Nissan dealer, they said theyll sell it to me MSRP, put down a reservation fee. 2 weeks later they lie to me and say they never said they’d sell it for MSRP. One week later I’m driving a Supra I got for MSRP and am happy with it. They’re losing customers every day…

I have bought 3 cars and 2 motorcycles. All from private sellers. Lightly used. I’m never going to buy a dealership vehicle unless it’s genuinely a good deal; which is impossible to find

Just saw a posting on YouTube of some guy who’s dad was also on a waiting list, went to the dealer and saw the Z with a $50, 000. markup, making it over $107, 000. All I can say is for everyone to remember these dealerships, don’t do business with them, and tell your friends not to either. If they are going to screw people, let them go out of business

I worked at Nissan HQ and personally launched the Z back in 2002 (many great stories). We correctly anticipated this and worked with dealers on a joint business plan in the pre-launch phase so that the big markups wouldn't happen. But more than that, we treated Z loyalists as total VIPs and gave them the 'insider' treatment. The result was a 100% successful launch with high customer satisfaction. Sad to see the current team doesn't seem to have followed the same path.

Every state needs to do away with the laws that require dealerships and allow manufacturers to sell directly to consumers the way Tesla does. I'm personally never ever going to pay a dealer markup.

I wanted a 2005 mustang when they were first coming out. They put a $15k markup on them.

I bought a GTO instead. Dealer couldn’t give those away. That 2004 GTO was the only car I’ve ever had that I regret selling. Only new car I’ve ever had.

It would be a bit more reassuring to see Nissan Corporate take the stance that Ford recently did with exorbitant dealer markups and start putting measures in place to ensure dealers participate in a specific pricing structure or risk losing their dealership status for repeated offenses.

A 2 door car worth more than 50, 000 should have a $30, 000 engine set up and be bullet proof.

I was one of those that was initially looking forward to the new Z and I had said it was going to be my next car. But as soon as the pandemic/supply chain issues happened and dealers started with their price-gouging nonsense, I saw this coming a mile away and bought something else. And yep, this crap with greedy dealer markups on the Z is exactly what I expected. For the amount of markup they're going to be asking for one of these, they can keep it. There are better/faster cars you can buy for $80, 000-$100, 000.

Nissan's going to learn a fatal lesson in how *not* to save a company from bankruptcy and irrelevance. Allowing $50, 000 markups does not foster "strong customer satisfaction."

It's now 2024 and I've seen a grand total of 2 new Zs in Florida. And one of them was a safety car at Sebring Raceway. Both of them were in December '23. Ridiculous.

I'm still laughing at the Ford stealership near me for marking up the Focus RS when they first came out, like if they thought they were selling Porsche's. Shortly after, the FK8 Civic Type-R was released, which was a way better hot hatch. And then all those Focus RS's were literally sitting in that Ford lot covered in dust for years. They should of got rid of them quickly at msrp and move on to the next hot product, what a bunch of dummies.

Update: 2/28/23 - That Ford dealership near me finally closed down recently LOL. They deserved it.

I put equal blame on every single buyer who willingly pays the dealer charge.
This doesn't excuse the bad-faith moves by Nissan.

The reason we used to pay less than MSRP was because we all refused to pay MSRP.

If you are selling ANYTHING for $10, 000 but people would give you $13, 500- you would be foolish to continue to sell for 10k. We all would be, and we all know it.

I live in middle TN right between the Nissan manufacturing plant in Decherd and Smyrna. I don’t work for Nissan, but what you are describing is the EXACT same for every single other dealership that I see. Dodge/Ram/Chevy/GM/Ford/etc are ALL allowing dealers to throw whatever pricing they want on those vehicles.

The advice I give my daughters is to wait. The vehicle bubble is bursting. The longer you can wait, the better deal you can get. ALSO, If your local dealerships are using “ADM” or “Market Pricing” to justify their exorbitant prices, extend your search OUTSIDE your area. Those terms might as well be short for “You people that live around here are SO damn stupid that we can mark our prices up over and above what folks in other cities have to pay!” So, if that local dealer moves fewer units, they will get fewer new allocations in the future, hopefully leading to their deletion if they don’t change their ways.

Nissan dealerships did the same when the R35 GT-R launched. I called around for weeks and finally found a dealership willing to let one go for "only" 3k over msrp when it was announced. It was common to see $20k+ over msrp.

So sad. This happened to a friend. He was the first to put money down to get the car locally. He was told that the vehicle was here and was told when to show up for the launch. Soon after, he was told that his Z was not here yet and that the cars brought in (two so far) were already sold to someone else. The dealer that he had put money down with was no longer with the company and a new guy was "helping" him and told him that even though he was the first to put money down he would have to wait for the next shipment. He decided to cancel his order and now the dealer wants to make it up to him. He was like how... you guys already screwed me.

Hey, the 400z is the nail in their own coffin.

To die a beautiful death, that will be their grave marker. I actually think they should let dealers charge up to a $100, 000 markup that way the cars end up getting crushed after never being sold in 5 years and we can laugh about it

The fact that they used your car for the ad and still treat like this as a customer says everything you need to know about which customers they’re truly trying to service. I mean that story would practically be marketing gold if they had gotten you the car at the agreed price lol 😂 the heritage full circle would have really come to life
