Buying a car is the worst. I always feel like I’m getting screwed.

I feel so dirty just walking into a dealership.

Don't be afraid to walk away when they don't agree to the price you are willing to pay

Never. If you finance, you may get a price reduction. If so (and there's no prepayment penalty), finance the vehicle and then pay it off immediately with hat cash. I saved $1000 on my last vehicle purchase by doing that.

And take your time to read through the bill of sale. One dealer tried charging my mom twice for the extended warranty which I caught. Another dealer did that to a friend of mine, which was just the beginnings of their shinanigans. She eventually got refunded over $5, 000. Her story would make you shake your head. The dealership eventually folded.

I got financing to sweeten the deal and paid it off within a couple weeks. No early payment penalties in NY state.

Buying a car is more painful than a root canal

I’d recommend negotiating an out the door price first. Even if you can pay cash, ask about financing discounts. Saved me $500 on my most recent purchase.

i tell them right up front. if their price is too high i walk. florida is a terrible place to buy a car. i went to 6 toyota dealers and the first 5 were very shady. the 6th one (seminole toyota) were serious about selling. i dealt with the sales manager and bought one in 20 minutes. he had 20 tacoma's on the lot. i told him i wasn't playing games and had already walked from 5 places. his price was thousands less than the other places. i find the best time to buy is around christmas.

There's only so many Saturdays one has, to wander from dealership to dealership. They fish for your finance status as soon as you walk through the door - I know, I've been there?!

I no longer buy new but even when I did, I know exactly (or pretty close) what the dealer paid for it, not any inflated MSRP then go from there. Used - I know pretty close to what the average trade is for a particular vehicle and, again, go from there. My current lightly used F150 had a ridiculous asking price. I said that since you had no floor plan costs and the truck had only been on the lot 2 days, I would offer an amount out of the door including taxes, license and "fees" and pay cash. Hem and haw so I put my coat on to leave when they countered. The manager literally tackled me at the door to agree to my figure rather then lose a sale. I've done that several times on new and used vehicles as well as 3 RVs. I've also walked out several times only to buy the same vehicle at another stealership.

Many local dealers in my area now say advertised price includes a $——- discount for financing through them.

I just finance and take advantage of the financing discount and then pay it off when the first payment is due. Never had a problem

Once our new Maverick arrived @ the dealership they called us & told us it had arrived and that after the shop had
prepped it for us they would call us to come get it. In a couple of days they called and said come and get it. We
asked how big of a check do we bring to them. They told us the off the lot $, we stopped by our bank and got a cashiers
check for them. We drove to the dealership & gave them the check & they gave us the keys. Everyone was happy.
No shenanigans no trying to sell us a worthless maintenance agreement no bull. Easiest & most painless car purchase
we ever made. Thank you MOCK Ford, Grants Pass, Oregon.

Never buy from a dealership you buy from a private individual best way to go

I experienced a salesman try to get out of a number he agreed to (Taylor Hyundai in Perrysburg Ohio). We were outside tge dealership and his sales manager followed and threw a temper tantrum. We left and went to the nearest Toyota dealership and bought a car there. I have never experienced that level of unprofessionalism in my life.

There are some credit unions that will call and make the deal for you. Supposedly they can make good deals.
