My cast iron is slick. 100 years old, and still the best cook ware in my house.

I’ve been using cast iron for a decade now and this short literally changed how I care for my pans…I’ve never used soap but definitely over oiled. They are amazing now

When you restore one before cooking anything on it. Cook up onions until you caramelize them then discard the onions. This helps with getting rid of any odd flavors for when you do cook on one. I have a cast iron that my Great Great Aunt have which went down to my Great Aunt, then to my mom. When the time comes it'll be pass down to me then to my kids then grand children

Love you Kent, when I moved into my apartment, someone left behind a 10 inch lodge skillet, and I must say it is the most babied piece of kitchenware that I own. Forget the kitchen aid mixer, or anything else. That piece of cast iron will forever be my girl❤️

When my husband retired, I changed our dynamic (I am a homemaker) slightly. I cooked and he cleaned up the kitchen. This included washing my cast iron skillet that I use daily. It took me FOREVER to teach him that a little oil goes a long way! Nothing worse than getting my skillet and it being sticky. Was able to fix husband and skillet! It's awesome that videos like these exist! I had to learn the hard way as a young woman, many, many yrs ago.

I wish I had paid attention to my dad when growing up for kitchen lessons. I’m glad I now have this man.

First!! I love your videos and keep em coming. Second....i prefer to use lard and do the seasoning in the oven with a gradual heat up and more importantly a slow cool down. I believe this allows more oil absorption into the pores of the cast. As kent said....thin coat and wipe off the excess

I inherited my husband's great grandmother's cast irons. They were found in a shed and the family decided I should have them because apparently she and I are extremely similar people and I do the family gathering cooking. ♥️ They are my favorite pans, sleek and nothing ever sticks. I got new cast irons and even though they came pre-seasoned they never behaved as well as Maw's pans. I learned that seasoning them with flax oil twice when they were "new", helped tons. You can use other oil though. I heated my oven to 450, let it bake an hour, then just turned the oven off. Once it is cold again, repeat the process. My new pants are much better. They're not the same but I think there's wisdom of the ages in Maw's pans and I certainly don't have that yet! 😂

My Grandfather always used salt and tin foil to smooth and scrub his skillets. Thank you Ken for sharing

I use a conditioner for cast iron. When I use my cast iron pan, I wash it with hot water and just a dab of soap, wipe it out and dry it good, put it on the stove and warm it (good and warm) and then apply a small bit of cast iron conditioner, rub it in gently with a cotton towel and it’s good to go. Looks and works great every time.

Thank you. I had bought one that was very sticky. I didn't know what to do with it. My wife wanted to throw it away. I kept it. Now I know what to do. You're awesome. Keep up the good work
