REVIEW - Qubic Systems QS-220-PL 3DOF Sim Racing Cockpit Full Motion

We've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to test a bunch of different sim rig motion systems over the years, but this steps things up a few notches. With 4 inches of travel and acceleration of 800mm per second, it's capable of absolutely brutal force feedback for your entire sim rig. But it also comes with a HUGE price tag. So let's find out what that money gets you!

This is like watching TopGear review the latest and greatest supercar. I could never afford it but still drool over it.

I use a SimLab P1X chassis extruded aluminum, along with Motion House Motion Gear's 4UN 4 corner motion actuator system with 6" of travel. It's basically identical to this in every way nearly and I couldn't imagine sim racing any other way ever again. Once you go motion, anything less just wont do. Static chassis racing just feels completely numb to me to the point of nausea as the motion platform I use simulates so well what your brain expects to be feeling and inside VR it's a match made in Heaven.

Generally what I've found with the 6" travel is that it gives more overhead to play with before clipping occurs in the motion actuators. Basically if you utilize the full travel then it can simulate steeper angles such as going up or down a steep road and still have the extra travel needed for chassis / suspension motion like heave and surge without clipping due to hitting that hard limit on travel. This also helps with the feeling of acceleration and braking. A 1.5" travel setup would barely be able to allow you to feel going up or downhill let alone simultaneously perform heave and roll motions. I'm also not saying systems with shorter travel aren't worth it but one needs to keep their expectations in check. How will it feel going up a hill with the front raised 1.5" and the back lowered 1.5" vs a 6" travel 6" in the front up and 6" in the back down? Big difference. I got my setup from Motion House for $5k USD minus the chassis which I bought from SimLab for $750 USD I believe it was.

Please also do a review of the new and more affordable QS-210 Will!

Great review again😀 You could benefit lot on comfort, and also motion feel adjusting your rig so that you sit more forward. I think pedals, uprights and seat can be brought forward a lot. It is important to seat as close as you can get at center of rotation. Also lowering seat as much as lets you turn motion more agressive, without feeling of sitting at top of pole. Very, very important specially at vr.

26:43 would really like a deeper dive on how motion setups impact screens on a separate stand, or if they're mounted to the rig that moves, as well as in VR. Starting to plan a rig and I need to get my head around all this.

Odd that you didn't show much, if any, footage of Rally racing especially something from Dirt Rally 2. I would think Rally racing would have the biggest benefit of the extra travel distance.

Great video. I do wish you tried the same settings on a monitor and then in VR though.

Great stuff as usual; spring assembly looks like good ol fashioned shock-absorber/springs from yester-years 😎😎

Like your style of vid reviews Will, but the ambience is way too dark. Your previous white background stage presentation was much better. Sometimes I struggle to see what you are actually showing as the background is dark and lighting is medium. Just some feedback. FYI this system was on my shopping list for later this year so thanks for reviewing.

Great video, it would be interesting to how your perception changes with it in VR

Those brake squeaks though! Feels like I'm in my F-Type R, but only when I'm not trying to show the Jag dealer the problem with the brakes; then they're perfectly quiet.

Im using a D-Box gen 1 right now and i love it but, there are times where i feel a little more range and response would help. But i just dont trust systems like pt actuators, didnt care for the mega RS kit i played with. I thought about the sigma integrale but the game base just doesnt seem there. These have had my interest for a while but not a lot of reviews, especially comparing to d box. Seems like its a descent upgrade, but it will wait for a while. But ill probably sell the d box at some point and try these. Good review

The response time and magnitude is impressive. I race exclusively in vr and would love one...But that price..ouch

would be interesting to see how something like this works with a flight sim if you have a hotas sitting around for something like MSFS, great vid as always

Off this topic, but can you do a shootout/comparison of the hi-end pedals you've reviewed? Asetek, Heusinkveld, Simucube, VRS, etc? Their features all seem to blur into one, and it would be good to understand any preferred pedal set, particular after your long term use. Thanks!

Great detailed review. Still going with the D-box😊

Great Review Will, nice system but I just wish that for those of us who are not iRacing users you could do your review incorporating other popular sims like Automobilista 2 and Assetto Corsa and even something different like Dirt Rally 2 and/or EA WRC. Just to give some more perspective on the motion operation apart from just iRacing.

Like with the active pedals, this is not for the average (me) sim racer. The pricetag is crazy 😂 Loved the review tho

Very interested in a VR compensation video. One of the things stopping me from motion.

Awesome review as always, now we need to see the review of the RS Mega + (150mm /6" of travel and considerably slower than the Qubic at 250mm/s) for comparison to see how much does the movement sepeed "interfere" with the feedback when having greater movement posibilities. At considerably lower price point compared to the DBOX and Quibic.
