With the new color TI-84-Plus C release, there are sure to be lots of questions about the TI-Nspire CX vs. the TI-84 Plus C. This video demonstrates a few of the reasons why I recommend the TI-Nspire CX.

The TI-Nspire CX is available with free shipping at Amazon.

The TI-84 Plus C is also available with free shipping at Amazon.

Eventually Texas Instruments is just going to say screw it and make a smartphone

Although the Nspire is more expensive, it's definitely worth it. Especially for students enrolled in IB, AP or other higher-level math classes like Algebra II or Pre-Calculus. Definitely a time-saver.

Thank you very much for your reply. I will go with TI-Nspire CX, seems like a lot for something only $10 more than ti-84.

My school uses the Ti-84 keystrokes for class demonstrations but I bought the ti nspire cx, would there be any difference for what the teachers say to do and what I would have to do?

totally convinced me to buy the TI inspire since i didn't quite get the difference between them. Thanks, your video helped me to decide.

If you're a sophomore or freshman, I would recommend the ti-nspire cx. It's way more easier to navigate and faster. You can also graph more, it has templates for equations just fill in the blanks(type coefficients/constants, etc) it has it for lines(y=mx+b, x=c, and ax+by=c), parabolas(y=a(x-h)^2+k, y=ax^2+bx+c, also for x=ay^2...), circles((x-h) ^2+(y-k)^2=r^2, ax^2+ay^2+bx+cy+d=0) eclipse((x-h) ^2/a^2+(y-k)^2/b^2=1), hyperbolas(east-west/south-north), and conics. It also has a notes application (save paper!) spreadsheets, data and statistics(pie/bar/dot charts, etc.) it also easier to learn because, technology evolves, young students will be more familiar with it. Don't listen to your teacher, most don't know anything about it, like mine. If you are taking pre/calculus, I would very recommend the ti-nspire cx CAS(computer algebra system) it has all the functionality of the cx, but it the cas is for the ability to do symbolic algebra. It will simplify expressions, solve multivariable equations/inequalities, factor polynomials, expand, zeros, complete the square, many polynomial tools, indefinite integrals, nth derivatives(maybe non-cas), and limits. It will simplify instead of saying "variable undefined" you can also change the settings for it give to give answers in irrational, exact form, instead of all those nasty decimals in approximate form. It also has a differential equation solver, or graphing. It has 3-d graphing(including parametric) pretty sure non-cas does not. Don't use it for basic classes like geometry. If you do, only for homework. I used it myself for geometry(I had to teach myself geometry, and only used it for learning, didn't cheat on tests). It can really help you in learning(I exceeded on an end of course test(wasn't allowed on test), without a someone teaching me). There's much more capabilities, like click and drag a graph, watching how the numbers and data change along with it, or drawing shapes on the graphing app. I want to make my own video, it will be my first one, check it out later. So, go buy it, boost your grades, have fun drawing /exploring /playing games on it, make all your friends/teachers jealous!(like I did) only use the cas vn for classes like calculus. if you(like me) have to take a class that has an end of course test(without graphing calculators allowed) make suuurrree you can do it without the nspire.

arcos, arcsin, and arctan are all on the ti-84-plus c when you use the '2nd' button. and converting from sin to csc and from cos to sec is really so simple that it's something students should be learning anyway, so the last point seems kind of moot.

Thanks this helped an old guy decide on a calculator for my 15 year old daughter. Purchased the TI-inspire CX

Thanks for posting this. I was having trouble deciding between these 2 calculators. I'm going to get the TI-nspire.

Hey Tech Powered Math would you rather get the TI-84 C Silver edition or TI-Nspire (1st version) for a High School Student taking the ACT and SAT? Or would the TI89 be better for the CAS function?

Are both, the ti 84 Plus C and Nspire cx cas, restricted the same during "Press to Test Mode"  or does one offer more than the other?

The only really annoying thing I find in the Ti-nspire is the fact that they ask whether you want to save every time you make a calculation, even on the scratchpad. How do you stop this?!
Also, I was so use to having my scientific calculator, and I just don't like the whole colorful look on the Ti-nspire.. its so distracting and when I take a test its harder to make calculations quicker than on like my scientific calculator....
Will I get used to these problems or should I return it? :(

@UC_Nightmare the ti 84 plus CE is my favorite. You can't really program using the nspire. Using my programs I can just slap in the points and and it spits out the mid point and distance. The nspire has a reduced programing feature.

I need a new calculator for Cal BC in few days. My teacher would probably use something like Ti-84. Maybe this is a silly question but can this CX do everything a ti-83/84/89 can do in terms of functionality? Would this be useful at college at least fresh/sophomore for engineering major?

I kept my TI-Nspire CX CAS and traded in my HP-50G, Casio Classpad 330 and Casio Prizm to buy this TI-84C Color. Do you think it was a good move? Like I said, I kept my CX CAS because of its power.

would you rather have a TI 84 plus CE or an older Ti-NSpire (with the TI 84 Plus keypad). This would be for a HS freshman. Any downside to the older TiNSpire?

My school uses the nspire cx, but I have the ti 84 plus ce. Is that going to affect how I work things out? Or will it back track me & slow me down? I'm in Algebra I & II.

Should I buy the CAS version? What's the difference?

Bottom line!  Test mode? Is one better than the other?
