► BARRE CHORDS MADE EASY shows you a gradual path from the power chord (a simple barre chord anyone can play) to the real deal:

In this fail-proof guide to easy barre chords on guitar, I'll show you how the power chord is the foundation of the bar chord and works in the exact same way. It's a movable shape that follows the root notes, requires the exact same hand and thumb position and literally is a part of the barre chord.

I'll show you the best barre chord exercise for beginners and how to transition from regular chords to barre chords so you will finally be able to play all those tunes that use Bm and F!

► Songs I recommend practicing with the power chord, along with some more information on this magical shape can be found on my website:

First I want to talk about why we learn barre chords. The answer is pretty straightforward: it lets us play chords in any key, anywhere on the fretboard. It's the gateway into the CAGED system. And it really is an incredible tool for any guitarist.

The problem with barre chords though, is they require a perfect balance of technique and finger strength. A lot of people try them, realize how hard they are at first, and they don't carry on long enough to hit the point where they can play barre chords more easily.

To help, I've developed an alternative approach that uses a different shape, the power cord. This shape is actually at the foundation of the bar chord, so it requires you to do all the same things: it puts your hand in the same position, it's movable along the fretboard and... basically it's the easiest barre chord that there is!

I'm going to teach you how to play this shape and a few variations that will let you build this shape into a bar chord by just adding one finger at a time. Then we'll review everything by practicing a switch from one of the basic chord shapes into our power chord and then evolving that transition from our basic chord into a barre chord.

I can do F major barre chord just fine and further up the neck I can do C minor pretty well but F minor I always mute the G string even trying it over and over and over again. It is probably harder than even the weird G#/E7 chord, I even made that one a bit easier by making up a new chord apparently called G#mB6 according to a chord calculator and I am struggling with that one (learning Don't Look Back in Anger by Oasis and got everything else but these two down).

Like another viewer, I've struggled with barre chords for months (actually longer). Unfortunately, my wrist doesn't rotate so that it's dead flat against the neck of the guitar as shown in this video. At best, mine rotates far less, so that I can kind of almost do a barre chord if I held my guitar neck very high, similar to that of a classical guitarist. (My supinate range of motion is 45 degrees).

Hi James. I have a question! I'm not sure learning the bar chord if I should make the bar first then put my other fingers down on the fret board or put my fingers down first and then the bar. I'm having a hard time putting the bar chords down all at the same time. Can you please give me some advice?Thank's
