9 Types Of Intelligence.

Harvard professor Howard Gardner introduced the world to his theory of multiple intelligence in his 1983 book, Frames of Mind. Simply put, the idea is that one’s intellectual intelligence or IQ doesn’t tell the complete story about someone’s full range of potential.
Therefore, Gardner proposed eight types of intelligence to more accurately measure a broader range of human strengths and abilities. Gardner’s types of intelligence are in line with what most of us have been brought up to believe—that we are all special because we all have different strengths and interests.
Let’s take a look at Gardner’s original seven types of intelligence plus two more that he’s added over the years. By examining the definitions and characteristics of each type of intelligence, you should be able to discern which types of intelligence you’re strongest in.

Self-assessments of my intelligences from 1-10:
1.Visual-spatial: 3
2. Verbal-linguistic: 5
3. Logical-mathematical: 8
4. Bodily-kinesthetic: 4
5. Musical: 2
6. Interpersonal: 4
7. Intrapersonal: 9
8. Naturalistic: 7
9. Pedagogical: 6

Currently I work as a programmer, but I want to upskill my pedagogical, kinesthetic and naturalistic intelligences, I also try to sing a bit more.
So one of my visions is to create a natural educational programming language for children (and myself), where the programming tool is so easy that the focus is more on the creation part than learning to program. Something similiar to Scratch just in a different form.

As Robert Wyatt said, "The problem with talent is that you never really know if you have any."

We all have things we are better at naturally, but we also need to practise those that we are not so great at that would compliment our other skills. Also, if you don't use it you often lose it. I remember I loved nature but though both my parents were keen gardeners I did not help much until I got my own first garden as an adult. I learned so much in a couple of years about what I could grow in different conditions in the garden, and types of plants and caring for them. Necessity is the mother of invention, they say, and I believe that. We can push ourselves too, before it becomes necessary.

I'd also say, even if you are not good at dancing, sport, or music, dance around on your own, find a sport you like, maybe swimming, and do it as often as you can, listen to music you like but also other types of music as it refines your skills. You may never be anywhere near the best, but don't reject things you are not good at or attuned to as you will always learn something from them that may help in other ways.

Back in my 30s I took the MENSA IQ test and got a score way above what was required for membership. (I didn't join because I don't join clubs, but that's by the by.) The standard IQ test is based, of course, on the first three of these types, and I've found as I've got older that they have diminished to different degrees. At the same time, others have become much stronger. I would now 'score' very highly on the intrapersonal category, and I would take issue with one claim you make. The more my intrapersonal intelligence/skill has developed, the less tolerance I've had for self-help books. They get so many things wrong, they tend to be written from too narrow a viewpoint, they're often overly simplistic, some of them are clearly cobbled together simply to cash in on a trend, and so they merely confuse the issue. And if you really know yourself well, they have no value anyway.

From 1-10, this how I would estimate my score at each type of intelligence:
1- Visual-spatial: 8
2. Verbal-linguistic: 7
3. Logical-mathematical: 6
4. Bodily-kinesthetic: 2
5. Musical: 6
6. Interpersonal: 2
7. Intrapersonal: 3
8. Naturalistic: 4
9. Pedagogical: 7

I'm a teacher and graphic designer.

I think all of us have the ability to cultivate these intelligences and infact we need all of them. We cannot survive without even one of them. Life's circumstances make us focus on one thing more than the other leading us to develop one intelligence over the other.

8:27 intelligence means the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills - therefore he was correct.
Issues arise because of people's narrow interpretation on the meaning of intelligence (and IQ as well). Those who are misinformed and/or believe intelligence has to do solely with book smarts.
Btw there's are many more quotients now lol

I have several intelligences, I have excellent writing skills, language skills, I have very easy to learn everything that I am interested in and I am learning extremely fast. Figureskating is a sport that I started 4 years ago and I am learning very fast. I have also very easy to learn others, even elements on the ice that I can not do myself. I was not a top student in school but since I have started to believe in my skills I started to learn fast. I have several companies, big family, I love pets, cats and dogs and I love to be in my garden as well. I enjoy reading some type of books, and I do it fast. I see solutions and patterns before others do and I can make spontaneous jokes fast.. people wondering how I make time for everything.. and still I can take a nap in the middle of the day..

Honestly, looking this through I'm glad I have my "little bit of everything" rather than extremes in one or the other. I'm not the best at one or two things, but I can definitely cover a lot of weak spots.

I'm sure that there are innumerable types of talent / intelligence. I add an important one: The analytical - classification intelligence. This is the talent of picking up many small and apparently insignificant indicia, sifting the information from the noise and combine the useful tidbits into a whole picture forming a new understanding. This is important to journalists, police investigators and intelligence staff.

To me the best way is through hands on experience. Its one thing to read on something and another to actually do it or be there
