Still waiting for the “Siding Fairy” to come and magically finish the top row like this guy had. My guess is he couldn’t do it, so he had one of the installers do it for him.

"It would be nutty!" Greeat Video!! Thank you! Where are you from? I'm installing a security system wiries and It looks like I can do as Direct TV did my cable and drill a hole right through the siding with silicon sealing the hole. Or I can pull the siding off and run it over to the channel. Its over a small roof and a little scary being up there not used to it as I am an IT guy. Pulling the siding while sitting on the roof has not been sucessful so far. What do you suggest or recommend? Thanks!

I'm going to explain how to do the top piece finisher.
step 1: insert your p channel also known as sill.
Step 2: measure from the bottom of the clip on both sides of the siding to where the bottom of the P Channel which sets inside of the j-channel
step 3: take into account that the final piece you're going to clip into the P Channel has about 3/8 to 1/2 in worth of play
this means that if the measurement from the bottom of the clip of your final course to the bottom of the P Channel is 2 inches, your cut will be 2 3/8 or two and a half
step 4: measure the whole length of the piece you're going to be putting in
Step 5: measure from the bottom of the piece you're going to be cutting to insert later on
step 6: Mark the siding on either end of your predetermined piece, if it's 2 and 3/8 inches on the left and 2 and a 1/2 on the right you probably can go 2 3/8 the whole way
step 7: draw the line with either a straightedge held on both your marks.(pro tips: you can use a speed square with the quarter inch increment notches if necessary. other times you can hold your knuckles on the rib of the siding to guide your pencil down the length or the piece.
other times you can hold your tape measure at the 2 3/8 mark to the bottom edge of the siding and position your pencil at the end of the tape and guide it all the way down to the end of the siding)
step 8: use a crimp tool that makes a half inch by 1/8 in slot that will eventually clip underneath the P Channel which sets inside of the j-channel

Very informative ! But could someone tell me if you could install vinyl siding over a stone wall? the old stone looks very ugly, and has seen better days, I need to side over it. are there any experts who know how to go about that? to install siding, you'd need to have a smooth and leveled wall surface. stone I'm talking about is irregular and you can not secure the 1"X3" wood on it!
