Let's show you how to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

In this video, I walk you through the steps to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Edge on your Windows 10 laptop or desktop. First, go to the Search menu and enter Program. Open Add/Remove Programs. Search for Edge and click on it. Click on Advanced Options and click on Repair. Click on Reset. This acts the same as having done a reinstall and should resolve any issues.

I hope this video helped solve your problem. App still not working? If so, drop your question in a comment below!

up until yesterday edge was fine...all my apps on desktop took me to where I wanted to go. but now every app I click on opens a microsoft page of news stories. I understand there was an automatic update that is 'recommended'. I want to go back to the old way I am used to. like you showed in your video it is not possible to uninstall. am I making sense?

Thanks for that! I'm going to try this because of my two custom-built desktops, (both have Windows 10 Pro 64bit version 22H2), the desktop I use the most is failing to install Win Cumulative Update KB5029244. The other desktop installed it just fine.

I've been struggling with this "Failed to install" since the update was downloaded by Windows earlier this month. The only thing I can think of is that it may be related to MS Edge. I didn't want MS Edge so I deliberately attempted to 'turn off' MS Edge several times in the past (1 to 1.5 years ago).

Mostly, I would change the MSedge.exe to ".exe.off". I didn't muck around with the edge exec files so much in the other desktop, but in this one, I must have added that ".off" suffix to edge at least 3 or 4 times because when I'd start the system or there'd be an update, it would overwrite that suffix or add another msedge.exe file.

I've done that to the MSedge.exec file and the MS Edge Updater exec file several times in the past. Of course, I've since undone the ".off" suffixes I applied to the exec files but maybe I need to do a full reset of the MS Edge installation altogether. I'm hoping that's what is causing the KB5029244 update problem or at least has something to do with it.

Keep in mind that the drivers in these two desktops are always kept up to date and there's no indication of any issues in the device manager. Yet, after running sfc /scannow, DISM, Chkdsk and other in an elevated command prompt, I still keep failing to install that particular KB5029244 update.

The error code (0x800f0905) isn't helpful at all so I'm suspecting some kind of corrupt sign-in or verification issue or conflict between Edge and the O/S.

Reinstalling or 'resetting' Windows is definitely not an option. I have way too many programs with special settings installed and I just can't start all over with them. So, I hope this MS Edge Reset will do the trick!
Thanks again for the video.
