Earlier this week, NASA tweeted a piece of good news for all earthlings. Its satellite data had revealed that the Earth is getting greener, thanks in part to China and India. The two countries are jointly responsible for a third of the foliage increase.

You can thank increased Carbon Dioxide for the other two thirds increase. (and a fair amount of the one third in India and China)

As levels of CO2 go up, you will see further greening. This is excellent.

Glad to see India and China together at the top of that ranking. They should further coordinate their efforts in that area and others.

Well when you start with land that has been devoid of everything due to overuse and mismanagement by China and India, planting anything helps.

China and India are 10% of the world's land - but in terms of greening you can discount about about a third of all the rest, because places like the vast Sahara (9.2 million sq km.), the bulk of the middle east, half of Australia, and all of Antarctica (14.2 million sq km) can never be green, so once you mathematically factor out those, you'll see that the greening of China/India is about the same as most other places (ie Europe and the Americas). Global greening is mainly caused by increased C02 in the atmosphere. The population of India grows by 20 million every year - to put that into context, that's an extra New Delhi's worth of people every year - or the equivalent of the total populations of New Zealand, Portugal and Ireland .... every year! If an hypothetical civil war raged in India that had the same monthly casualty rate as WW2 and WW1 (combined) - the population of India would still have an annual increase despite the death toll. India presents a huge ecological problem for itself and its neighbours within the next 100 years -
