I can’t help but think of my daddy when I listen to this song. He lost his battle with cancer 6 years ago. He was there when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter, without fail because my husband was working. I was high risk and it was terrifying. At the same time, he was battling cancer just to be there for us. He did not desert us and I thank God for that everyday. He lost his fight to cancer not even 2 months after she was born. He was holding on for her. After he died I learned that the cancer had spread to every part of his body, his lymph nodes, bones and blood. I can’t imagine the pain he was in, but he was still there for me. When I say I had the best daddy in the world, that’s a fact. Rest In Peace daddy, I love and miss you so damn much!

After seeing what's happening with Russia and Ukraine I listened to this masterpiece by Dire Straits. It's about the futility of war. One of the most poignant and powerful song's you will ever hear. As human beings we never learn. 😥

The sound and pure emotion of this song is sublime. I’ve been listening to music all my life 75 years and I have never heard a guitar player with that unmistakable ethereal sound.

My sons went to Irac and never came back. They didn't die, they just "didn't come back." War has so many casualties; to me, the mothers get hurt, too. I miss them. We were so close when they were growing up. It's been 20 years since I've seen them. This song...Oh, this song, it hurts. It's a painful song.

Most of the guys I knew in high school(1967) came back in a box or were never found. Some that I know that made it back continued to fight the nightmares. Okay we realize so little of the tragedies of war until we’re the boots on the ground and then we’re not quick to speak of it because who’s going to believe us, the shame stays forever.

Age 62, so naturally have to do the air guitar riff at 3.43, just as we did back in the day!! What a great nostalgia kick!

I've always loved Dire Straits from the very first time I ever heard "Sultans of Swing" with Mark Knopfler's incredible guitar work and wondered, "Who ARE these guys?" Of all the songs Dire Straits has done, this one is the most meaningful to me. I spent over 20 years in military service (I retired quite a while back), and I find that the impact this song has on me only gets stronger as the years pass. We ARE fools to make war on our brothers in arms. Peace.

I purchased this CD the same year we deployed to the Persian Gulf... the song was a bit slow for me at age 21... but today I chose to listen closer to lyrics and within 10 seconds the melody made me tear up... it's a haunting song... melancholic... sad... yet inspirational and thought provoking... Mark is brilliant.... an absolutely beautiful composition.

During this covid 19 lockdown, I've been stranded 2000km away from home, everytime I miss my dad I listen to this song, we weren't always on the best of terms, but he always loved this song, especially when he was off in war

Today I have lost my brother he committed suicide and ended his life I can feel the pain and agony he went through. He couldn't hold on he just ended it and got rid of this material world. My heart mourns for him I think he shouldn't have taken such harsh step and end this way. May Allah bless his soul to eternity. Rest in peace my brother in arms

I dedicate this to all nurses past and future. We are the silent warriors. We are the ones that see our creator's children go home. Our elite warriors have wings so they can carry us to them. Never doubt your worth

Listening to this song while watching the finale to Supernatural brought back some memories I wish had been left forgotten. I was a young Navy nurse serving on the Repose during Viet Nam. I can still see all the broken bodies and minds that came through my ward. I spent two tours on the Repose from 65 to 69 and even after over 50 years it’s all like yesterday. They all truly were brothers in arms.
