My son turned me on to Mark Knopler years ago! Sadly I lost my son in a tragic accident in 2003... But I still listen to M.K. all the time! Remembering my boy!!!

I remember, towards the end of the 90's, me, a young Moroccan at the time, living in the little-known town of "Taza" in eastern Morocco. I often took the old train towards an other city "Oujda", where I continued my studies. The journey, lasting nearly 3 hours, traversed almost desert-like landscapes, familiar to my eyes. To stave off boredom, I would slip a Dire Straits cassette into my walkman and let their songs play: "Where do you think you're going", "you and your Friend", "Telegraph Road", "Sultans of swing"... But when "Brothers in Arms" started, I don't know how or why, time seemed to stand still.
And now, after 25 years, when I listen to this song, all those images come flooding back, and I feel that same sensation. For me, nothing compares to this Masterpiece.

Served in the US Air Force 1967-1972. Here’s to all of my brothers in arms, to the ones who made it and to the ones who didn’t.

Played this at my fathers funeral, he was Green Beret. Played it for my sons funeral, 5 years in Iraq/Afghanistan. I was a veteran myself. We're all brothers in arms. It will played at my funeral.
This is a masterpiece by MK, and his gift of guitar playing is just awesome. Thank you MK, for sharing your gift with the world.

Some day I will tell my kids this is what a TRUE rock star looks like. No freaky look, no attitude, no scandals - just 100% unbelievable talent.

I'm so grateful for an audience that's not hooting and hollering and whistling through the whole thing. This audience understood the respect.

Met Mark Knopfler at a coffee shop in Prague years ago. I was travelling to Rakovník to find my grandfathers grave who I never knew. I said hello and we had a chat for about 10mins I was on my own and he got out of his hotel to be alone. The memory remains with me forever and so will this song

He never plays the song exactly the same way every performance, his soul always comes through in the guitar and his phrasing. Remarkable genius.

Goosebumps. All over.
My grandma recently passed away, and had written down that she wanted this song played at her funeral. She didn't get it, because my family is cheap, so I went to her grave after the ceremony and played it for her. <3
