Loved the video, very thoughtful and insightful. If I had the presence of mind to make a video like this 20 years ago, it would've been about the impact of 9/11 on public space. COVID definitely shook things up and we're just starting to see the effects.

As far as AI goes, I'm excited by the possibilities and experimenting with how to use these tools in my own practice. It's still pretty unclear how much of an impact AI will have, but there's something there for sure. The main obstacles are cultural/legal in terms of intellectual property and professional protectionism (wait until it comes for the lawyers 😂), and technical issues like hallucination and accuracy. There's a fascinating argument going on about whether AI data will degrade by reinforcing wrong/made up information that's hard to separate out.

Anyway thanks again, I just found your channel and I'm enjoying it.

Just a few thoughts on how LA's might be able to guide urban design and address other key issues in development. First, water conservation through creative onsite retention and absorption rather than piping to the nearest waterway. Second, more sustainable design in high risk areas along rivers and coastal areas using recreational land buffers and conservation areas and maybe third, reduce heat island effects in urban areas by creative selection and planting of a variety of indigenous tree and shrub species along city streets and residential areas. Many other opportunities exist.

Isnt it a paradox to position suburban sprawl which is the leading destructor of habitats, as a savior of biodiversity because a few native plants are being micromanaged by gardeners ? Doesnt this framing give permission to continue with low density housing as long as a few natives are engineered in ?

I'm having a lot of trouble finding the right sources (if any really) to learn about landscape architecture on a nature landscape scale honestly for restoration type design. Our classes focus mostly on gardens and city/village design and a historical view on how landscapes formed and not that larger scale towards designing them and it's rather disappointing. Perhaps I'm just missing the right search term?? Or we're really just completely lacking in experience of making informed designs.
