My supposition is that souls are made of dark matter or dark energy.
In my religion, when god made all the animals, human animals were among them, and when god made man, it was just the act of attaching a soul to give him the power to choose how he lives, instead of just being an animal. The phrase “in his image “ doesn’t mean two arms, two legs and a head, it’s referring to the soul.

When I was 18 years old i faint because of the heat. When I woke up i was floating above my body, some 30 feet. I was thinking and seeing despite I was outside of my body. When I suddenly entered back to my body I felt upset because being free of the body was much more pleasant.

There's cases where kids remember their past lives and after some research they discovered that that person existed and died the way the child explained. We are a soul living a human experience.
