This was the plan all along. Start with expensive and fast cars to fund the company's ability to produce enough vehicles that everyone will buy.

Maybe you can find an answer to these questions. How long do these batteries last, how much it costs to replace them and how are the old ones being disposed of. Currently their disposal plan is to remove the easy stuff and dispose of the carcass in the desert. Not so environmentally friendly.

To say this will be the end of all gas vehicles is to say that you really don’t understand economics. Let’s just say that In the US we go to 50% all electric vehicles. This will result in a significant oversupply in the amount of gas and a reduction in the price of gas. The effect of this will be to make operating a gas powered car more economical. Now you can argue that with incentives for electric vehicles and taxing gas will tend to counter this effect but I think it will be a long time before gas card go away.

I am not arguing that a $25, 000 electric car is not going to have a huge appeal, I think it will but economics will have gas powered cars around for a long time.
