Tesla Model S Frunk Manual Release

The hood catch has a double release for safety. If one or both catches don't release with the fob, there are two manual cables in the right and left front wheel wheels that can open the hood.

according to user manual: When opening the front trunk using this method, the latches remain in the open position and you can not close it again without electrical power. To close a front trunk that has been opened by pulling the manual straps:

Charge the low voltage battery (for instructions, contact Tesla).
Press the Front Trunk button on the touchscreen to reset the primary and secondary latches.

Thumbs way up! My 'out-of-warranty' 2016 Model S P100D 'bricked' ... After 'praying desperately' to the LORD with my wife and brother ... I 'miraculously' stumbled into this video ... and I was thus able to get into the frunk to ultimately 'jump' the battery ... to unlock my doors, etc. ... and ultimately finally enable 'tow-mode' from the touch screen even. (I'm from Alabama, 140 miles from the Brentwood-TN Tesla service facility. Tow services here cannot dolly a bricked Tesla past 50 miles). So this video was God-send for me. I am so grateful and thankful to God for men like you to share such vital info that I could never find elsewhere.

Thank you Russell. We had a ton of leftovers from a restaurant. I was able to open the frunk and dump it. But once we got home it just would not open completely.

Thanks a lot, just got it open. But what happens to the manual releases? Will they just stay like that, all loose? After i closed it again they were still loose/long. Im wondering if they just stay like that, anybody knows?

I would like to know how to get those cables to reset so that one can use this method more than once! Those dangling handles don't look so great when you put the panels back after this method.

Sir can we open model 3 with same procedure?

Anyone else just realize that this makes the frunk an insecure storage area. I guess I have to go back to storing my cash under my mattress.

Hi Russell, could you help me to give me the name of your plastic tool, how to search on the Google? My car is parked with front in the garage, the Tesla service which is 300km away won't sell their tools so I could open the frunk. I wouldn't start this process with a screw driver. Thank you.
