A 19-year-old was arrested for driving 176 MPH on Interstate 5 in Washington County, sheriff’s deputies say.

At about 12:30 a.m. on May 17, a deputy conducting speed enforcement saw and heard the speeding 2016 BMW M3 heading south on the interstate near Highway 217.

“The deputy used a speed measuring tool called a Lidar and learned that the vehicle was going 176 MPH,” the sheriff's office said.

The deputy radioed in a description of the car, and another deputy further south on I-5 spotted the driver near the Nyberg Street exit.

They pinned the vehicle in and arrested the 19-year-old behind the wheel for reckless driving.

This happened right down the street from me. Sometime after this he said that he though he was going faster, and the speedometer said 183mph.

Due to this being past midnight, and to his cooperation with the police he did not receive jail time.

No one else was on the road that he could have endangered, he was only given a $1, 100 fine and a 6 months suspended license. Had there been any other cars on the road and/or people in the car he would have easily received a felony charge with reckless driving and/or reckless endangerment.

Shouldn’t have started questioning him before reading him his rights no matter how offended you are?

Speed limits need raised in many areas

Only place i can see below 50mph are mountainous regions and heavy foot traffic/residential/school zones

All major highways and interstates should be limit 100-120mph or more

But they don't pass a law that limits the governed speed. It's entrapment. Like selling guns but make shoitingvthem illegal.

On the 26, I regularly get passed by people going 100+ mph after 10pm. 😂

People are still driving like maniacs on a daily basis on I-5 and I-205 (connected). I see triple digit speeders almost every day driving the area as a courier.

If I was ever stupid enough to do 176 on public roads, I hope I would never be stupid enough to admit it.

Wow that cop is excited we need to start doing what NYC police do and only hire police who have spent at least 2 years in the military or 5 years as a cop elsewhere. But oregon cops don't get to see another of action so when they see a teen driving better than them they get way to excited
