I was on a (public transport) bus in Amsterdam and a group of kids started singing a song. Within seconds EVERYBODY in the bus joined in! I just can't imagine this happening in the States.

I love it when you show the little cookies that come with the coffee. You made me appreciate them even more ❤

I've been in Korea for damn near 20 years now, and this is definitely a thing. There's a lot that you can't unsee or unknow after you've left the US.

I was once in a lovely park in North America on a beautiful sunny day around lunch time. Nice benches and tables around all empty. And the only other people in the park where people sitting eating lunch in their cars. There was a whole row of cars like that. But nobody outside in the actual park. Kinda broke my heart. Im still baffled why the people all went to the park just to stay in their car.

AMEN Brother. I've been trying to tell people. They think I'm crazy but they wouldn't if they visited some of these places in Europe and Eastern Asia.

Don't forget that we in the states are also under the constant fear of losing our jobs. My company has had 4 layoffs in the past 12 months. It's so stressful. Then, add that to being overworked and our healthcare (which is STILL expensive even with insurance - I pay $700 a month for a family of 4 for insurance and still have to pay for doctor, dental, and vision visits and most prescriptions) being attached to our jobs. Is it any wonder why Americans are burned out and fed up and don't like their jobs?

Me, my friends and family have lots of city breaks across Europe, and we spend most of the day walking from place to place. A 10 mile walk per day is nothing to us, and it feels amazing to have that much freedom, and takes away so much stress. We don't mind getting a little lost, in order to discover new places.

I’m so interested in going to the Netherlands. I love how they are agricultural innovators and it seems so laid back .

Hey Sky! I really love your videos! Also seeing you walking around in my hood gives me good ideas for coffee places! I also wouldn’t fit in in my home country anymore because of the mindset shift. I love that I can basically walk anywhere. I can’t imagine going back to a lifestyle where I can’t do that.

You brought up some interesting points. Ive lived in both NL and the US. I was always trying to get people to go out for a walk or a bicycle ride in the US but it was rare that i got anyone to go with me. America can be a very lonely place.

I had a culture shock when I arrived back in the UK after visiting Sweden and Denmark.

it`s mindboggling to me that in the US you will move near to nature to just only ever spend time in your car. it`s the biggest culture shock between the US and Europe that made it very clear for me early on that I could never ever live in the US. I LOVE walking outside without a specific aim in mind, just to stroll around, get lost in my thoughts, see what`s new in my surroundings. Not being able to do this without getting scrutinized is an inacceptible lack of life quality to me.

My very first trip to the US more than 20 years ago I was visiting friends and they took me to South Padre Island in Texas, and it was great but after a week I just REALLY REALLY needed a walk, and as it`s just literally a thin island with one main road going up and down, I thought, it`s on, I`m going to walk up and down as long as I feel, maybe check out some stores. Not one, not two, not three, FOUR cars slowed down next to me asking if I needed any help, whether my car had broken down or what was going on. I mean, super nice, but... JUST LET ME WALK!

And the very fact that you HAVE to have a car takes away so much freedom from life. If it breaks down, you are literally reduced to the mobility of a 10 year old. In Europe we have cars too, but we can still chose at any point just to walk for the joy of it or to take public transport to go where we need to go. You can have a car. It`s often useful. But you don`t absolutely NEED one ALL THE TIME. That`s freedom to me.

Maybe the fact that you are generally a happy person makes you like more or less any job you have. But you are right that if you become overworked, therefore constantly stressed and tired, it can make you hate your job. Even if you loved it when you loved it when you started.

That hit me so hard when you said there is no innovation in construction. That is soooo true. I love construction and always go into houses that are build new, anywhere in the world. The US is actually the worst...by far. Just go to Home Depot and then go to Leroy Merlin in Europe. The difference is staggering. In the US, the kitchens are all the same, the bathrooms are all the same. Yes, different colors, but that's it. Same cabinets, same light switches, same faucets, same light fixtures. If you go in Europe into Leroy Merlin and look at the many different designs for light fixtures, light switches, tiles, bathrooms.... you name it, all changing year after year. In the US, there is no difference if you walked into the Home Depot in the year 2000 or 2025, besides the standard light bulbs that are LED now;-)
In addition, most of the work is so inefficient in the US. They just throw a lot of people at a problem, in hopes it gets fixed. In Europe, they teach you, take the time to train you and how to professionally do the work, so the end result is high quality work done fast. Believe me, I lived in an apartment in Las Vegas and the air condition unit inside the apartment ceiling was leaking. The guy fixing it, just put layer after layer of tape on it in hopes it would work. The bathtub looked like a bomb went off in there. They did not replace it, they got a guy who spray painted it. That was so bad as it created bubbles where the paint didn't stick to the dirty bathtub. It is just mind blowing seeing this stuff.
That is why I always say "The US is the richest third world country in the world";-)

You talking about walking in the States reminds me of a visit to my sister a few years back, when she was living in Crewe, Virginia. My husband and I wanted to go for a walk in the neighborhood and she said we couldn’t because it wasn‘t safe.
