Yo this is amazing. I watch a lot of med-youtubers but your channel is something different. The way you go into depth on the chemical pathways is incredibly entertaining and educational, and it's something other youtubers tend to skip over. I think you've definitely hit a niche with your biochem videos.

Not my first choice for checking out. A friend of mine is a ICU nurse. Some years ago, she nursed a guy who had overdosed because his gf had left him. A short time after, he changed his mind and got help, but by then it was too late, the damage had been done. She nursed him whilst it took him 2 weeks to die from multiple organ failure. A very painful end and he truly regretted taking an overdose and really wanted to live at the end. So very sad.

This is a worrisomely specific video for the algorithm to recommend... Does Big Data know something about my rate of paracetamol ingestion that I don’t?

At age 15 my psychiatrist told me that if i were to unalive, he couldnt really stop me, but that i should at least never do it with paracetamol. 18 years later im still struggling, but im so, so glad that i had an honest doctor that gave me this information when i was young.
Too many of my friends went like this, and they never even knew what it would be like. They didnt deserve that.

This was really interesting to watch. I have tried to overdose several times many years ago and ended up in hospital each time because I was found. I would have taken around 50g of paracetamol each time (100+ pills at 500mg) but I also had antidepressants and alcohol too. If you're watching this video because you want to attempt the please read:

When you take an overdose, I can't say for certain what it's like with only paracetamol but I think overdosing is similar regardless of what you take (speaking from experience), you get very drowzy, woozy, and generally out of it. Your body starts becoming very ill and likely you will throw up a lot since it is trying to get rid of the crap you've just ingested and meanwhile you are so tired, so weak, and everything feels a bit surreal almost like a choppy nightmare, or blacking out and doing stuff but not remembering it. I was put on a drip for 24 hours each time, then discharged, but you're so tired and out of it that you don't really know what's going on for a lot of that time.

As far as long term damage goes, I am certain that I will have liver damage although I have not been tested, it just seems like I couldn't fully bounce back from all those attempts. And also, you'll probably have a really hard time taking paracetamol or anything else you took for a while because just the smell let alone the taste if it's in your mouth for too long will make you want to throw up again. It will make you feel so gross, I have only just been able to take paracetamol without wanting to throw up and it's been almost 10 years.

In conclusion, just don't do this. It's a horrible experience, it's long and painful, it will wreck your body maybe even long term, and it's very likely to fail because of numerous factors, many mentioned in the video.

I always hated it when people told me that things would change and life would get better because I thought it was bullshit and that it was such a token gesture, and I still think that's true. It CAN get better, you put the same effort you are into wanting to die into recovery and keep holding on. Don't indulge in the suicidal thoughts, don't act on them. Just do whatever you feel you can to be better and your hard work will pay off. If you keep living the same and trying to kill yourself, things will not get better. It took over 10 years for me, but it did happen and if you'd told me all those years ago that I would get to a point where I am enjoying life, no longer suicidal, in a stable relationship and achieving my goals I wouldn't have believed it. Maybe you don't believe it either. But please at least believe that you do have the power within you to completely turn your life around, you and you alone. You really are that strong and you can do it.

Edit 22.7.23: I wrote this comment when I was in the midst of an abusive relationship, but thought it was stable due to denial. You know, whatever hardships you go through, there is always better. Even back then, I was secretly suicidal but I pushed through because I believed there would be better. Even when I didn't, when I was convinced I'd be dead by the end of last year (2021) because I couldn't handle the abuse anymore... I found it in myself to leave, to have hope for a better life. And a better life has come, even though I am still in therapy. I wish I could express how much my heart aches for everyone who watches this video or reads my comment because they want to overdose. For two years, I have come back to this comment countless times to reply to people who have come here seeking help, reassurance, kindness, or whatever else they need. You are loved, and one day I hope you love yourself enough to know this in your own heart as I do in mine.

I will always be here for you, send a comment and I will reply. There's nothing better in this world than to connect with people who share your pain, to feel like you're understood and that you can find a way. I will gladly share yours x

Many years ago, I tried to overdose on paracetamol twice. To my great disappointment (at the time) all that happened was that I got drowsy, fell asleep, woke up with a weird stomach ache (which I actually realise now was possibly my liver) and went about my day very much alive. I just came to the conclusion that you can't die of a paracetamol overdose. Guess i was wrong and very lucky.

My father died this way. The hospital just thought he was drunk. He was, however, what they didn't know or told the doctors was that he took about 30 hydrocodone 5/800's in one shot. Took a week till he was in a coma and about a month and change to die. Rip Dad 1/18/08. 😞

This is the kind of stuff YouTube should be reccomending and people should be watching
Informative, usefull and straight to the point. Knowledge is always good, and when it's explained simply, it's just amazing.

Ive heard this is one of the most painful ways to overdose, my friend called a poison control hotline to try to find out how much to take to end his life and they described to him how hed die.
Sadly, he did end up taking his life in another way.

RIP Graham ❤

My dad died of this when I was 9. It was unintentional tho. He just took too many over a long period of time because of pain issues, which ultimately led him to feeling really ill one day, without knowing the Paracetamol was the cause. He died in his sleep later that night of heart failure. So yea, be careful with any kind of medicin guys. I wish he knew this back then.

I have a chronic health condition and take a lot of Tylenol and am always scared it will affect my liver. This video helped me realize I’d need a LOT more than what I take to cause damage so thanks!

you should make a series on the most common medicines and explain their lethal effect/normal working effects, such as ibuprofen insulin, etc. would be a very interesting series and i would definitely watch!
